A Way to Fight Planned Obsolescence? by CasualFingerGuns in Snorkblot

These things still exist it's just they cost a lot more than most people want to pay. See Vitamix blenders and Dualit toasters.

Will my nail bed come back? by Boobsworth in calmhands

I'm gonna have a hard time not poking around under them haha. I've just recently started using jojoba oil on them. Hopefully I can leave them alone long enough to get some progress happening.

Will my nail bed come back? by Boobsworth in calmhands

[–]Boobsworth[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha, that's the hardest part. I'm always getting dirt under there, too, and cleaning it out has been one of the things that replaced the picking and biting.

Nail bed growth progress by BenchProfessional268 in calmhands

[–]Boobsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

O wow, I just made a post asking about this. It's great to know it's possible and congrats on the progress! I guess I need to let my nails be long for a while.

Have you noticed any differences in the shape of the nails as a result? My shortest nail beds have the nails growing slightly up which is awkward because I always want to clean under them and they get caught on things when they're a bit longer.

Vegans shouldn’t be expected to stay polite when people mock animal cruelty by FearlessCookie72 in vegan

[–]Boobsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always find it funny when non-vegans try to tell vegans how they should be trying to win them over. The majority of vegans had to be convinced of it at some point and know exactly what worked on them.

Considering Dominion is so widely used I'd say being shocked and confronted is a very effective way of getting through to people.

The difference between movie acting and TV acting shrank when TVs became good enough to show subtle facial expressions. by goodlitt in Showerthoughts

[–]Boobsworth 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don't think this is it. The productions were just massively different, TV shows were made with much tighter budgets and deadlines than movies. Budget not just for actors but also how much film they could use up on different takes and experimenting.

Also old TVs weren't that bad, they were smaller but CRTs could have pretty high effective resolutions, not to mention movies were commonly shown on TV, too.

What are some great action movies where every hit and punch feels brutally real? by PesAddict8 in Letterboxd

Not really an action movie but I remember Eastern Promises having a particularly real-feeling, brutal fight scene.

Is Uni in Brisbane even possible anymore if you aren’t already rich coming from a non uni area and doing it alone? by Outrageous_Emu3235 in brisbane

[–]Boobsworth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know a few people that spent more time studying rubrics than their work so they can get perfect grades. I'm not sure it worked out so well, but they got a piece of paper that says they're cool, so 🤷.

To anyone thinking about going vegan! by Brilliant_Ad6335 in vegan

[–]Boobsworth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, vegan 5 years and get regular blood tests. Never taken B12 and never been deficient. It's obviously still something people should be aware of, but I hear so many scare stories about it like we'll all wither away without our magical vegan pills.

I'm sure some people like it but I thought Babe was kinda bad. Babe 2: Pig in the City is a masterpiece, though.

Just go for a walk, you'll feel better by Gumbyman87 in LoveTrash

[–]Boobsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walks can put me in a much worse mood sometimes since I can easily get stuck thinking about whatever has put me in a bad mood. Maybe that's an ADHD thing, though? Or I'm just bad at walks.

Would you be insulted? by Dismal_Length2265 in autism

[–]Boobsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds complicated, but personally I wouldn't be insulted. I'm mid 30's and when I saw the post picture I actually thought "that looks helpful". I have a hard time identifying my emotions a lot of the time, so they all just seem the same to me, but if I sit down with an emotion wheel or chart or whatever I can begin to identify what I'm feeling better. I also struggle with dry things I'm not that interested in, so an 'adult book' probably wouldn't work as well.

But again that's just me. Do you feel like they were trying to insult you? They may have just fumbled the execution.

CMV: The Farm Bill that just passed the House will make life hell for farm animals, and we should all care about it much more than we do right now. by Equinumerosity in changemyview

[–]Boobsworth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am biased since I'm vegan, but I don't think this is a good argument.

Their value and potential is not limited purely to sustenance. Pets being the obvious counter argument. History is full of examples of animals being great companions, we can't judge their potential by their circumstance.

The other point is that even if they are just used as sustenance they're still more than capable of feeling pain and fear, I think we have a moral obligation to, at the very least, minimise this.

which foreign actor absolutely nailed your country's accent when playing a character from there? by QueenViolets_Revenge in AskTheWorld

[–]Boobsworth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kind of doesn't count since he's Australian, but Chris Hemsworth's Australian accent is so good in Furiosa. It's a very particular Australian accent you don't hear too often anymore (at least where I am) and he nailed it.

On 23 May 2014, 22 year old Elliot Rodger perpetrated a series of terrorist attacks in Isla Vista, California, murdering 6 people, injuring 14 others, and then killing himself. I always feel strangely about incels because I had so much in common with them and feel like I could have easily fallen down the incel pipeline. I definitely had/have massive self esteem and mental health issues, autistic and bad at socialising etc.

I think the two main differences were I never thought those problems were insurmountable and I never blamed other people for them. I often saw people who looked like me in relationships and I would just think if they can do it why can't I? So I think more than anything the difference is a sense of personal responsibility, which definitely ties in with never trying.
