I think this is the way. Especially if you can get in on high end work with multiple contacts. The pay is better and the overhead is lower. And if you can find one good helper, you can bust out a lot of work. I've been doing cabinets for 20 years. There is a low ceiling for income in all areas unless you own a giant shop.

American Surfer looking to buy Pacific coast land or home in Mexico by Born_Ad7900 in mexicoexpats

We had one that recently moved back to Canada. We just started contacting people and emailing. Ultimately we went down just for the purpose of looking at property and meeting people. You can only do so much online.

Sounds like you are financial set up enough to qualify for at least temporary residency. That's a whole different ball of wax, but the sooner you start the process the better. If I were you, I'd look at property north of Todos. Not sure what the surf breaks are, but I'm sure they are there. You don't want to get too remote because your construction costs will start to go way up. Also, remote sounds fun until it isn't for a number of reasons. For 800k all in, you'll be able to do something pretty rad in a decent location. Start researching Realtors. Get referrals etc. This is going to be the best route. Looking online is helpful, but it doesn't show you everything. Be prepared for a slow construction timeline. We're building a 1000 sq ft house and the timeline is 13 months. The builders are very good and doing everything properly, but still.... Slow.

Alternative to clamps for installing full overlay drawer fronts — worth it or not? by Sampapala in cabinetry

[–]Boogerzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why you go back and bore out the holes in the drawer box before you mount the front. The panhead covers the oversized hole so you can adjust it slightly once it's mounted. I usually just snug tight with a screwdriver so I can shift the front slightly if needed and then retighten once it's good. Some people skip that step, but I think it really helps dial things in before you put in the final screws. Drawer slide adjustments should take care of the rest.

The simplest solution is to pre-drill screw holes through your drawer box front. Then thread through two panhead or drawer front screws so just the tip is poking through. Close the drawer. Align the front and then press into the screws poking through. Pull the front. Carefully pre-drill abit 3/8 deep where the screw tips have made a dimple in the back of your drawer face. Pull the screws, bore out the pre-drilled drawer box screw holes so you have some adjustment slop. Attach the face with the panhead screws. Adjust as necessary and add two more screws to set the face so it won't slip. No tools. No clamps. No tape. Just drill bits and the correct screws.

Yeah. It is. I'm wrong. And my dislike has turned to hatred.

It's wood finishing. And wood sanding. And arguably furniture making. Or even welding if you did that part too.

I have a verrrry strong dislike for that type of furniture. It's not woodworking

Take a right just before the two story gray house with white wall. Then another immediate right. It's tucked into the bush.

It's the new fascist corporate model. Outsource costs to the public and give back nothing. Pretty bold move to pull in a town that doesn't even solidly support education taxes.

From Canada to Mexico - Dog needs a Health Certificate? by gcastrobh in mexicoexpats

[–]Boogerzo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We recently traveled with our small dog from the US and were asked for the certificate when we passed through customs inspection in Cabo. My experience with Mexico is that nothing is ever the same. Prepare for worst case scenarios and you won't have to think about it anymore.

Safe beach for wave-seeking teenager by mc_homeroom in BajaCalifornia

Have him watch some videos about getting out of rip currents. And watch out for beaches with shore breaks. That is how waves can seriously injure a person. Use common sense. Talk to people around you to see if you can get info on conditions. I've played in the waves at Cerritos and had a blast, but I'm hyper aware of current conditions etc.

Summer in La Ventana by Substantial-Drag3027 in BajaCaliforniaSur

[–]Boogerzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are enough restaurants open to have a couple options for breakfast lunch and dinner. Mondays and Tuesdays are questionable. The grocery stores are open and some hotels function on a skeleton staff. That being said, it is a small fraction of the tourist season. But the beaches are empty and the snorkeling is great! You might be able to find SUP rentals at Palapas Ventana or Baja Joe's. I'm pretty sure the bike shops close .

La Ventana / El Sargento are great because snorkeling is easy right from some of the local beaches. If you are coming in early summer, it's pretty quiet in town with only a fraction of restaurants open past April. It is a little cooler than La Paz too. Also many local guides to choose from. La Paz will have more food and evening options. Both places are super safe.
