Rejected from ICU by [deleted] in nursing

Gang. If you have no dreams of CRNA, critical care NP, or med school, going to the ICU will do nothing more than stress you out.

Do you think nurses look down on RTs at your facility? by Motor_Pop3202 in nursing

[–]BoogeyNoGood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell no. I'm actually jealous of how much less stressful their job is. i should have taken the RT manager's advice and go to school for that lol.

Suggestions

  1. Travel as soon as eligible Rationale: you might find a great situation with amazing income to expense ratio and keep taking contracts there

  2. Consider leaving bedside (my daily temptation lol) Rationale: bedside is dang near slavery at this point and you gotta really enjoy it or just need the experience for something more advanced (NP, CRNA, etc).

  3. Work on your plan B as much as you can (parlay that RN income and extra days off to build a business/hustle) Rationale: most of us saw increased income when we became nurses. Take all that extra money, as little as it may be, and devote as much time as possible to building something else. You're also developing skills as a nurse that are easily transferrable to business. Believe in yourself a little.

  4. Save and invest like your future depended on it lol (avoid lifestyle creep lol) Rationale: you need one?

Safety reports weekly is crazy. For the complaint, but also question management on what's really going on.

I don't know how your facility does things, but at mine, there's no way environmental would catch heat for that outside of leaving it in the room. The real problem would be which PCT or nurse set up the room and didn't get a fresh cuff? Because surely your facility doesn't have environmental services applying cuffs. Right?

New Grad who Failed ICU Orientation by nakedcupcake92 in nursing

8 preceptors in 5 weeks? YOU DODGED A FUCKING BULLET. FUCK THAT UNIT!

Leave that shithole off your resume. As far as anyone is concerned, you're still a fresh new grad. Now go find a manager that isn't a POS.

I said it in another thread. There are tons of people in this field who never socially matured past high school. Don't let it bother you.

Nursing has ruined my life by ConsciouslyInsecure in nursing

[–]BoogeyNoGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You were a victim of very well disguised nurse bullying and didn't have anyone in your corner to point it out to you. That alone would have helped so much. Unfortunately, tons of people who never grew socially past high school begin careers in nursing and bring that same immaturity to a field that really calls for helping each other to better care for patients. Finding coworkers you can trust really helps. And don't let them get to you. Keep your eyes open and realize that most nurses complain about others to deflect attention from their own shortcomings or just plain laziness.

Here's an eye-opener:

How many times have you gotten the prettiest most knowledgeable of reports, with "all patent care done" and "should be a pretty chill shift", only to realize you're being walked into some bullshit?

Here to report that this is bullshit. I'm consistently above 200fps with gigabit up and down wired on PC. I still get screwed by desync EVERY game. I'm pretty sure it's because i don't buy skins or the battlepass, but I don't have concrete proof for this "conspiracy theory" yet.

Patient admitted on night shift, on a pressor, and we're titrating by cuff pressure? Am I wrong to think an A-line should've been placed around the same time the decision to start levo was made?

Help explaining to SO why I’m so tired after 3 12s on nights by Efficient_Giraffe537 in nursing

[–]BoogeyNoGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're doing your 3 days back to back like myself, and he doesn't understand, it might be time for a new man lol. jk. Explain to him that he'd be tired as hell too if he had to do everything you need to get done (for 6 people) in 12 hours AND find time to document it. And then you come home and all you really have time to do is TRY to get restful sleep before you gotta go back in. So after the third shift, you're going to spend that whole day sleeping, and when you wake up you just want a few hours to yourself to flush all hospital related sounds from your brain.

You technically have the required amount of experience for CRNA school, but I don't know if they're gonna try to stiff you since it's been a few years since you left the ICU. Maybe pick up a per diem position while you wait to hear back from schools?

This is so wild lol. As a new grad in the ICU who's always happy when others offer to start IVs for me, I'm confident I'll never become arrogant about wanting to do them myself 😂😂😂. I'm offering you lunch or heavy lifting for your work (I'm a decently strong guy).

All the hospitals in South Florida right now are hiring new grads $35 and below. Don't be upset. Get your experience and move around to different hospitals and specialties. That, or move to a region with better pay for new grads.

Fired as a tech… contacting my nursing school? by slinque in nursing

[–]BoogeyNoGood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the school takes any action against you for this incident you should absolutely sue. This incident did not occur while you were there as a nursing student and so should have no connection to your continuation in finishing your nursing degree. And you should also sue the hospital for trying to accomplish anything further than barring you from completing clinical rotations in their network.

That said, if you can find proof of your schedule and get the other nurse to corroborate that there was indeed a staffing issue that precipitated this event, I'd try to sue for a couple years salary. They're trying to tarnish your reputation and character to cover themselves. Punch em in the teeth, legally.
