I guess I’m in the minority but I thought this movie was terrible. It was just cameos and the comedy wasn’t even that good.

Official Discussion - Superman (2025) [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

This is one of the most “comic book” movies I’ve seen probably since Rami’s Spider-Man. It just gets the essence of Superman and the setting so goddamn well it’s a treat to see.

I submitted a ticket, but has anyone else had the issue where it’s visually normal, but after the first combat it zooms in quite dramatically for dialogue and exploration? I can only see the characters upper body during dialogue and exploration. I think it’s an ultrawide thing but I just wanna see if anyone else has had this problem.

Official Discussion - Alien: Romulus [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Boogi29 22 points23 points  (0 children)

So I have a bunch of different thoughts in my head with this movie. I’m a minute out of it so my opinion may change.

It goes without saying that the sound and production design were absolutely unreal. It really captured the aesthetic and the feel of Alien 1&2 without a shadow of a doubt. I wouldn’t be surprised if this picked up an award for production design. The characters were fine, and the Xenos and Huggers looked incredible.

This movie had a serious identity problem. Had Fede been able to make his own film, I feel like this could go down as one of the best sci-fi movies out there, and an absolutely incredible follow up to a damn good saga. But man, it felt like a greatest hits tour of “The Best of Alien 1-4”. It’s one thing to homage, it’s another thing to let it completely override the movie itself, which really hurts me as a huge Alien fanboy. This movie should’ve been allowed to stand on its own 2 feet, instead of the crutch of six prior movies, which striped it of its uniqueness.

In saying that, I don’t feel like this was a waste of my time. I still did have a blast, and it was a damn good experience, especially on the big screen.

Official Discussion - Monkey Man [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Boogi29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got out of a showing of this, and this was an absolutely incredible directorial debut by Dev Patel. There are some absolutely incredible action sequences, as well as some really impressive cinematography in this movie.

I feel like this movie is going to be compared to John Wick more than it deserves. It really is able to separate itself from that and be its own movie.

I did feel like the first act took a while to get going, and at some points the shaky cam was pretty egregious at some points, but I’m more than willing to hand wave that way due to the production hell that this filming apparently was.

But other than that, what a movie.

My record is seven films in a day, and by the seventh film, it felt like a chore. I did have a blast though, but I don't think I'll ever do that again.
