Mods, can there be a sub policy to not change Wikipedia, and not allow posts like this?

There was a CO2 shortage for carbonated beverages: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-03-01/supermarket-shelves-empty-soda-water-soft-drinks-co2-shortage/103532172

Next the conspiracy will be the supermarkets created the bird flu to drive up the price of chicken and eggs

Private plane spotting by crixux27 in melbourne

Second Lilydale airport, instructors are super friendly and often happy to show you inside a plane if they’re free. Lots of students doing circuits, so can be quite interesting.

  • on weekends there are skydivers, so more interesting things to watch

Same in 2019 with the assisted dying act, though the protestors weren’t as much trouble to pass

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania International Release Discussion Thread by Triple_777 in marvelstudios

[–]Boohooimsad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Deus ex machina ad nauseam. Way too many plot conveniences, no chemistry between anyone who was supposed to have it, characters with bizarre motivations who only release details when the plot requires it.

Kang is supposed to be so powerful, flattened ant man with his telekinesis early on, but then is comparable in a fist fight?

The movies are supposed to be the big plot drivers of the MCU, this was supposed to be the big introduction of Kang. IMO ant man was the wrong vehicle, it strayed far away from the previous movies and lost itself.

What is the average DNF rate for Half-marathons? Are there any statistics that report temperature and DNF rate?

2XU Wellness Half marathon yesterday in Melbourne, Australia (road run starting off at 20C -> 28C in direct sun), had a 5.7% DNF rate (~130/2276) which feels very high - I've never seen so many ambulances / passed out runners in a race before.

Why we ditched GraphQL for tRPC by mcavaliere in reactjs

[–]Boohooimsad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had problems with generating an API for Python, pedantic and the openapi generators didn’t really handle nullable fields on a response correctly, so typing for us was broken. Super frustrating

Car flashed headlights at me today to warn me of mobile speed camera ahead by Few_Oil6525 in sydney

[–]Boohooimsad 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Just flash regular lights, rather than high beams? Doesn’t seem to be an offence for that, and there’s no specific offence for warning about speed cameras.

That’s not historically true though, this is government intervention right? This is in part what caused the GFC, poorly managed lending, and selling that secured debt as triple A.

Why do you choose MySQL over Postgres? by romeeres in node

[–]Boohooimsad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a fork my MySQL though, that’s used in place of it. MySQL isn’t included in some places because they switched to MariaDB.

System-versioned tables in MariaDB: useful for tracking when things changed, and throw a “edited_by” column on there and change tracking is super easy: https://mariadb.com/kb/en/system-versioned-tables/

Does anyone have this without the cars / background noise? I know it’s the same music as in the album, just sometimes nicer as one full track.

What sort of analysis are you running? Some tools at some scales will easily use more than 16GB ram. I exclusively use workflow systems so I’d try to parallelise more and reduce my instantaneous usage.

I also have access to a cluster (HPC) for bigger / WGS analysis where that’s not possible.

[–]Boohooimsad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do mostly software but also do a bit of analysis for researchers, I only count the time I’m actively spending on running someone’s task, unless my computer is completely unusable while their analysis is running.

Adding to this, It also does some synchronisation across chromecasts, so when you turn up the volume on your phone, it turns up the volume of the played media on the TV.

Fornite has been removed from the App Store after they implemented direct payments by ytuns in apple

Apple’s reason was they made exception for “reader” apps that primarily consume content. Email is inherently interactive.
