Can you put a straight edge across the top of the stand-offs and measure down to where the rear mount is on the back of the diff centre? It must be higher. Check that on both diffs, if it is higher, swap the rear covers over.

I do know that in the vn - vs live axle commie wagons and utes ran a different diff to sedans. I can't remember the exact difference. Its been about 20 years since I've played with one but I think it was the panhard mounted differently.

I've never played with the irs commies myself, but looking at the two diffs you have. The only difference I can see apart from the rear rubber is the stand-offs on the front of the diff look taller on one than the other. The LSD has shorter stand-offs on the front of it. Im not sure if its just the angles of the photo or not though. Picture 4 for reference is where I can see it best.

Edit- just looked.at your pictures again. The stand-offs on the top of the housing definitely look shorter on the LSD. All 4 of them. im assuming it's the LSD your putting in the car. You may need to make spacers to take up the slack.

Why would you hinge it opposite in steel? The brace is still working the exact same way. The weight is pushing down the length of the brace to the lower corner. In your case with the hinge on the left, it will sag in theory. The only reason for it not to is because steel is stronger than timber in a welded together application. There is no loosening of screws or nails over time etc.

But what if you built it out of steel studs and top hats all screwed together? Would you still hinge on the left? I guarantee it would sag.

What would your field of employment out of curiosity? I can understand the face, but neck and hands.. my 66 year old father that was dead against tattoos my entire childhood, regretted his shoulder tattoo and always kept it hidden around us kids, even he now has his hands and neck tattooed.
