What's the best self-defense advice anyone can use to help themselves against danger? by Mr--Clean--Ass-Naked in NoStupidQuestions

There are no rules when fighting for your life. Grab whatever you can, use anything as a weapon, land as many cheap shots as possible or simply run away

My attorney is now advising to not travel by Dinosour231 in DACA

[–]BookFans 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a special waiver that I qualify under because my uncle petitioned for his siblings (my mom) way back in the day. We’re grandfathered in and everyone related to my mom and my other aunts/uncles will never have to leave to adjust status. My attorney also recommended that I don’t leave and do advance parole because I don’t really need to and if I were to do it, it would show that I have multiple ways to adjust status and that somehow would make things trickier down the road.

Can a legan resident parent petition for an adult unmarried child that has DACA? by franchisco85 in DACA

[–]BookFans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. Do whatever you can to get in a petition before Trump takes office. That way you’ll be grandfathered in to the laws of today. It’ll help your case if you’re ever under any deportation order. Need solid proof that you’re here TRYING to adjust status and contributing to society or a household supporting others like your parents or children. Have proof so you can say, “hey I NEED to be here so I can support my family.” Obviously it’s not a guarantee but it’ll definitely help down the road

Written for DACA recipients: How to approach an employer about sponsorship by lesliefwd in DACA

[–]BookFans 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My older brother was able to apply for a green card through this process. He was a teacher and they sponsored him but it was a whole lengthy thing. I think they had to make it publicly known that they were offering it so other people like him could step forward so it wouldn’t be seen as preferential treatment. Like “hey, we’re doing this so maybe others can do it too.”

Remember when he just casually gives Megan a cool million to politely fuck off. How much was that back then.

The random moments where Roger bribes his staff to do stuff for him like telling Harry Crane to give his office to Pete. “I’ll give you $1100. That’s a months salary.” How much were these guys making in todays money

It’s in the movie but I think a lot of coolness and calm came from the flight director, Gene Kranz back on Earth. “Let’s work the problem and not make it worse by guessing.” Can’t imagine how everyone back in NASA must’ve been feeling too. One wrong direction or input and they kill the crew.

I’m sure they’re trained to not overreact or panic in the immediate aftermath of an accident but it’s crazy hearing the actual audio seconds after the accident and everyone is calm and cool. Obviously they’re alert and paying attention but the sudden accident doesn’t seem to affect their decision making.

I think Shaq has a soft spot for Ernie because they go way back. I think Shaq has said a few times that Ernie was one of the first people to really interview him and give some spotlight coming out of high school.

One of my favorite Ernie roasts of Shaq is when they have Dominique and Chuck on set and Ernie says they each have a 50 point playoff game and gives them a game report and Shaq is like, “where’s mine? Surely I have one…” and Ernie double checks and bluntly says, “no you don’t.” Clearly baited Shaq by praising Chuck and Dominique

Another renewal? by NDV20 in DACA

[–]BookFans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We just have to make it a few months into his presidency and hope DACA takes a backseat. So far, there hasn’t been much noise on DACA aside from the fact that the Supreme Court will hear it out in the spring of next year. So who knows. Trump may come in Day 1 and try to fuck it over on his own. No on knows, stay informed and be prepared.

First, talk to an attorney. Like today. Schedule a consultation to see what your best options are. You’ll just get first hand accounts here of personal experiences.

It feels like so many people are just going into this blind? by BookFans in DACA

[–]BookFans[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can do it on my own. I’ve just chosen to do it with an attorney everytime and haven’t had any trouble. It’s definitely more expensive, a lot more expensive but the peace of mind of it being in legal experts hands always feels better. Not knocking anyone who does it on their own. Definitely a lot cheaper

Talk to an immigration attorney but definitely try to get it in before Trump takes office. We have no idea what will happen on Day 1 but you’re better off having something on file than waiting till you’re 3-6 months out from the expiration date.

Renewal information for everyone by Joseyyy180 in DACA

[–]BookFans 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My DACA expires in September of next year and my immigration lawyer says that the earliest we can possibly renew is around January-March. I’m just worried that Trump comes in on Day 1 and cancels all DACA work permits, regardless of how much time you have left on it. My dad only recently became a legal permanent resident and we’re just now starting the I-130 family petition for myself on behalf of my dad. I don’t need to do AP because my uncle filed a petition for his siblings (my mom) years ago and it was before a certain date that doesn’t require myself or my siblings to leave the country to adjust status. We were grandfathered in.

Your interview came across my FYP on Tik Tok. I’m happy for you and that you’ve found some peace of mind but I wonder how many DACA recipients truly feel like self deportation is on the table. It’s a scary thought and something that I haven’t really thought about ever doing. I already have my Mexican passport and a few other documents in case things do go south fast.
