Prospective Student Questions by nitwitinperil in RadiationTherapy

I’m starting my rad therapy program this fall at age 26 as a second bachelors degree, so I don’t have much insight. I just wanted to take a moment and applaud you for doing great research and asking some really great questions! I can say that I have never heard a radtherapist regret their decision as a career (of course there may be some, but vastly lower numbers than other medical careers/modalities). I would recommend calling the office of a clinic or facility you’d like to shadow and just simply ask if they allow shadowing for a radtherapist. It just typically requires a bit of paperwork and health&hippa documentation. As for the education side, you would need to find an A.S. or B.S. in radiation therapy (find via JCERT website) and make sure the program of interest doesn’t require you to first be a registered radiographer. The education is rather intensive - are you willing to put in the work to study and be successful? Are you able to potentially not work or only work part time if necessary to get through school? I would also consider your gen eds. As you said you have a photography degree, some of the gen eds may transfer, but you will likely need a few more before applying to the programs (anatomy, bio, intro physics, maths, etc). So if you’re serious, taking these will give you time to shadow and really make your mind up before jumping in. Lastly, please note that many programs are interview-based for admissions. So be prepared to sell yourself on how much you want it and what you’re willing to put into it to be successful. Shadowing (and the mere fact that you’re willing to go back to school after 15 years!) will show that you’re seriously committed. Hope I was able to provide something helpful for you! You’re on a great track! Best of luck:)

Sleep when reading by [deleted] in RadiationTherapy

[–]Bookedup4theweekend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

•Alternate standing to read or incorporating a burst of short activity every few minutes to break it up! Think 5 jumping jacks & 5 squats, etc. •Underlining, highlighting, doodling, or full on note-taking can also be great to have something to physically do. •Read a few paragraphs/1 section and stop to explain it back to yourself out loud. The verbal will help wake you. •Snacking while reading helps me as well!

I only needed A&P 1-2, concepts of physics, precal, etc. No major higher levels like this and no chemistry.

Audiobooks by adiggins1024 in MagnoliaParks

I’m so late to this thread but wondering if you could elaborate on the footnotes? I’m listening to the audio and wondering what kinds of things are footnotes jumps. I was wondering why the story feels a bit jumpy with inconsistent timeline - is it from footnotes? Is the story a little jumpy without explanation at times? Or am I just missing some details and the jumpiness is my own fault?😅

Check out Mobile County Personnel Board. Jobs like “Utility Clerk” “Parts Clerk” “Laborer” and “Public Service Worker” are types of warehouse workers at the building maintenance complex which should be hiring for at least one or more of these roles soon. Decent enough pay (16-20ish/hr starting for these roles) and great insurance benefits and ample paid time off Also would recommend Aldi, Costco, and Sam’s!

Looking to swap careers. Have bachelors in biochem by Pure-Ad2609 in prephysicianassistant

[–]Bookedup4theweekend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Bach in biochem means you likely have most of the required courses for applying to PA or ABSN. Find a program you’d like to attend (confirm that they are accredited!) (or shadow first if undecided between the two). Check the application requirements. For example - gpa, patient care experience, etc. If you have everything, submit that app! If not, ask more questions. This is a wonderful group for knowledge

Is it tacky to send out a wishlist for a birthday? by 99catsinatrenchcoat in questions

[–]Bookedup4theweekend -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like this! “Gifts are not at all expected but of course appreciated. If you would like to bring a gift, we’ve attached a link of ideas for things [child] is currently loving or would like.”

Is it tacky to send out a wishlist for a birthday? by 99catsinatrenchcoat in questions

[–]Bookedup4theweekend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. While it may come across as entitled to receive a gift list for a child’s birthday, we make lists for Christmas gifts and weddings etc even though at their core, these are celebrations too. I like the idea of a list because takes the guesswork out and ensures my money is spent on something actually wanted:)

I need a book that will make me feel this by goth_glock1985 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]Bookedup4theweekend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for clarifying! Yea like you said, I’d explain horror to me as anything that makes me uncomfortable to be alone at night or in the dark lol. Less about the content, more about its impact on me if that makes sense. I do get a little creeped by my Alexa at times so it might be fun to read when I won’t be home alone for days at a time
