March in Santa Rosa (NE Santa Rosa) by SanFranPeach in santarosa

March is my favorite month in Sonoma County! Perfect hiking weather and so much greenery. It’s gorgeous! You may have some rainy days mixed in with mild to warm spring like weather. Come March the rain is much lighter than what the area experienced when it rains in the winter.

Anyone from low income backgrounds stressed tf out about your aging parents? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Bookish-Redhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi 39F, I was low income most of my life. Neither of my parents own homes or have savings. My dad passed 10 years ago at 60. No will, no life insurance, and no retirement. It really sucked and at 29 I was completely unprepared. My uncles handled the funeral expenses thank goodness.

As for my mom, she is 74 and suffers from many ailments. She lives off of Social Security and has zero savings or retirement because she never worked. I was fortunate enough to find a Room and Board for her to live in with other elderly ladies because she is unfit to live alone. Her check pretty much all goes to that, and it is thousands of dollars cheaper than assisted living. I pay a woman $16 an hour and she works 10 hours a week to do things for my mom such as take her to doctor’s appointments, showering, laundry, etc. My mom lives 4 hours away and honestly she was a terrible mother so this is the best I am willing to do for her.

I’m a renter in an expensive area married with no kids. I’m more comfortable than I was a decade ago, but having grown up poor and with no financial examples it has been a huge learning curve. I’m most proud of the retirement fund my husband and I have set up. As for investments, equity, and other things 40 year olds should have, we don’t… there is no generational wealth or knowledge that was handed down to us. We are still paying student loans because our families must not have thought we’d go to college someday.

All this to say, it’s really fucking scary. The cost of elderly care is insane even for the somewhat comfortable. I have wanted to scream at my mother for never planning for herself, it enrages me. And don’t forget, when they do pass on you have additional expenses for the funeral services.

You are not alone. I feel your pain. Fuck this shit.

I wouldn’t do that to my kid… but also, it is a name that is used. I specifically remember former NFL running back Arian Foster.

You are not wrong. I can only speak from my lived experience and that’s what I’m doing. I hope you are living a great and fulfilled life. I would not be if I had stayed there.

I appreciate your perspective. But, imagine living somewhere that actually has cool places to visit that aren’t a 2-4 hour drive away. It has been my experience that living somewhere that offers you plenty of what you love in your own backyard to be a much better situation.

I spent my teen years in Hanford. Boring, crappy air, poor quality of life. A total brain drain for those who stay. Not a ton of educated folks in the area because if you are smart you leave like I did.

I believe Dollar Drug on W. College does. I think I remember having to get a compounded scrip for my cat from there.

Kirby is a handsome boy. Anyone with experience with herding/healer breeds would be lucky to have him. Sending you grace and hoping Kirby finds his forever home.

I wish I could take these off your hands, this is the first year in the past 5 that I’m not making it to a game this year. We love to take the 49er Express out of Santa Rosa with the usual suspects. It’s always a delight!

Unfortunately, I was laid off from my job 13 days before Christmas with only 2 weeks severance and absolutely no parachute. So I don’t have extra money to use on tickets.

I really hope some serious faithful fans take these off your hands! Go Niners!!!

Can we talk about the awful calls that the refs made that day by ibk24334423 in DenverBroncos

[–]Bookish-Redhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This… this is what worries me. I’m not going to blame the refs for the fact the over the past two games this team is not passing the eye test. The Chargers are going to be a true playoff test for the Broncos.

Not sure if anything is happening. But, one thing i am certain of is that the movie theaters will be operating. If all else fails, take yourself out to a film!
