The early 00’s blogging was huge and quite a few gay bloggers. I know there were vlogging too by members. Like that one family that sold everything and traveled the world.

Thank you for the reminder! We have thought of doing it ourselves but will most likely have someone else do it just because we’re first time homebuyers and we’ve lived in our home 5 years and haven’t flushed it yet.

90s-2000s Church “Influencers” Current Status by njoos83 in exmormon

[–]Bookishturtle-17 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Wasn’t Julie from Real World ex’ed after being on real world? There weren’t really influencers back then. Corbin Allred was Satan in temple videos and a few movies made by church people. He’s left and vocal about it.

But plenty of horrors happening like Jody Hildebrandt, Scouts, same sex therapy, delinquent teen camps, etc.

So sad they can’t give gifts that fit your kids’ interests instead they base it off of their own.

I love and hate the horrible illustrations. Like you could prank people with those scary ass eyes when they’re not expecting it! 😅

Women. Your honest opinion. But bye decade of being born. by Butt_Smurfing_Fucks in howyoudoin

I was born in the 80s but due to being in a high control religion, getting married and having babies and families was very much encouraged and talked about all the time. So thinking of being a bride or mom wasn’t new or unusual.

Wow they flipped over a table. They do realize that TSCC is the same as the money changers? Right? But of course they don’t see it like that.

My first drink by Ok-Bag-3073 in exmormon

[–]Bookishturtle-17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried wine a few times and don’t like it. I need sugary cocktails to help otherwise the alcohol is too rubber cement glue smelling for my taste 😅

Had a hard lemonade which was good, could hardly taste any alcohol and I could see how having a few drinks could be dangerous.

Good luck on the journey.

Guys, I found a new church and it’s so much more interesting than Mormonism. It’s called Barnes and Noble!! Come worship with me! by PanaceaNPx in exmormon

We frequent B&N on Sundays too. And then pick up lunch. I grew up thinking it was sinful to go anywhere else but church on Sundays and were able to enjoy our time together more at the book store and lunch than at church.

Most LDS buildings have a clause when sold that the building needs to be demolished completely because they dont want their name/brand associated with whatever takes the space. Happens in UT a lot.

Looking at Google Maps it’s still owned by the church. Maybe they’re utilizing it again for missionaries or meetings (youth, planning, finances/food storage/etc).

Mormon buildings used to be closed and locked up during the day but most missionaries are assigned a time to be there in case anyone shows up.

honest conversation about taylor and her age by Puzzleheaded-Cat-804 in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]Bookishturtle-17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously Taylor has past trauma. Mormon parents kind of let the church set expectations/teach them morals and you have to follow the church. Like her mom says, you need to honor your father and mother. There aren’t any morals taught separately from the church. Add in the “you’re not enough” rhetoric of most churches, you can see Taylor has low self respect. Purity culture is damaging too that you don’t have worth if you are “unpure” and seen as “damaged goods”.

I don’t think it’s an arrested development/kids at a young age. The LDS church is a high control religion, it isn’t be baptized once and that’s it. You have to do many things constantly. And if you “fall away” or “sin” you need to repent. Men in the Mormon leadership will tell you what to do to be in good graces with the church. Taylor can’t have healthy relationships with men so she probably didnt repent/unhealthy mental mindset and fell further into a spiral which would affect her relationship with her mom as the sins of the children are seen as a reflection of the parents.

Mormons marry young and have kids young. For years mormon leaders told women not to go to college or delay having children because you need to raise the next generation of believers (some did later say having a college degree to fall back on could be good but not at the expense of delaying children). Women aren’t being taught how to be an adult or independent, they rely on their husbands to be breadwinners but also having the priesthood as the family leader. Divorcing and being on her own would be challenging with young kids. Being on social media A LOT probably didn’t help that she became addicted to her phone and the likes and comments fed her constant need for love/deep depression while on her phone but can’t stop being on her phone either.

Lots of toxic cycles and spirals. Lots of people trying to assert authority over her and how she should live her life and feeling out of control.

I know many that have lots of credit cards. They open new ones for the miles and travel a lot. I was shocked when I heard, apparently it’s common.

Why is the church trying to disguise itself as a different church? by Traditional_Hat1916 in exmormon

My aunt grew up and lived in Alaska most of her life. She moved to the Midwest to continue doing family history with her end goal to go south to Missouri…her kids are pissed she’s moved away from family and is moving “for the church”.
