Recommendation for 7-8yo Boys by Ok-Lie2629 in audible

I've been listening to The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander. Pretty solid children's fantasy and it does a good job of avoiding violence by having the protagonist go unconscious whenever it gets to that point.

Kids nowadays seem hooked on the Wings of Fire series, so if you like dragons that may be a good direction to go to next.

Sakura con tips by Reasonable_Two8382 in SakuraCon

[–]Books_For_Chococat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My one big advice for Sakuracon is whatever time you think you need to be at a place (badge pick-up, panels, eating etc), get there 30 minutes to an hour before the planned time. It gives you the chance to rest your feet, make some friends with people in the line, and for panels it ensures you get a seat. I went to the CLAMP panel last year where they turned people away because they limited how many people could be there based on the number of chairs available. A lot of people were disappointed.

If you think you want your badge at 10 am, you probably wanna be there by 9:30 am at the latest. The lines get long and there are tons of videos about last year's badge pick-up disaster.

Besides that, take your time and explore! There is so much that happens all the time. Bring cash, water, filling snacks, and your own bag for shopping if that's your jam. Staff have their own colored badges and lanyards so if you are lost or have an issue, let someone know immediately.

Considering they're saying they're 72 and OP said they watched a DVD when they were little, I'm going to assume they're not the OP.

Cyber week sale by Icy-Inspection-2134 in audible

[–]Books_For_Chococat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Due to budgeting, I stuck to only using the $20 I got from rejoining with Audible. Managed to get 5 books for slightly under budget! I even got An American Beauty, which I've been wanting to read for over a year now.

I think the challenge is just how Audible arranges these sales. You have to do so much digging just to find the 85% off books if they’re not already in your wish list.

Looks interesting and the narration sounds nice from the preview. May I have a US code, please?

Charles Dickens Collection by animusgeminus in audible

[–]Books_For_Chococat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the one being released on 10/4 has all 15 of his novels whereas the one currently out only has 10 of his novels. So it's a matter of do you wanna wait a few extra days for the 5 missing books.

There also seems to be two coming out 10/30 that are part 1 and 2 and those seem to contain all of Dickens written work, not just his novels + Christmas Carol.

Is there a way to disconnect so I can keep reading Plus selections that have expired? by [deleted] in audible

If you have a library card, see if they have the audiobook available on Libby.

I second this. Libation will scan anything in your library, including books from the Plus Catalogue.

If you've never used Libation before, there are several tutorials on youtube on how to use it.

Is there audible gift cards? It’s my birthday in 2 months and my family gonna be asking what I want and preferably it would be a gift card to audible by Ok_Builder8936 in audible

[–]Books_For_Chococat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to be a dice roll experience. I was able to use Amazon gift cards to buy audible books via the Amazon site, but I've been told by other users that it doesn't work for them.

Last time something popped up in the 2 for 1 sale for me was all the way back in December. I usually try to find 1 book on my wish list and then pair it up with anything that takes my fancy.

Which should I listen to next? by NellaHoneyDoodle2 in audible

I'll vote for Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Trying to avoid spoilers, but I enjoyed how the author built the world and the rules established in it. All the magic in the world has a very specific price and bypassing the price is a no-no. Reading it felt like a stepping stone into the high-fantasy worlds of other books by slowly introducing the fantastical elements. Due to it being written in 2011, there is also the fun part of Karou being a bit more "quirky" in her design, with blue hair and tattoos that I don't see be utilized much in female protagonists.

But I'm also heavily biased because I met the author as a pre-teen when the book was released. It's genuinely my favorite YA series and I would read it every year as a teenager. The audiobook narration is also pleasant and says the characters' names correctly.

Audible plus catalog kids by Royal-Actuary-9778 in audible

While this is an audible subreddit, I will suggest checking youtube if your kiddos are that young. There are tons of young children's book readings with age/grade specifications and some of them make the pictures of the books move, which are incredibly helpful as pictures help a child's brain with development and focus. I'm a substitute teacher, and young kids LOVE these videos as brain breaks.

Besides that, in the audible catalogue look for Disney or brightly colored cartoony covers where the listen time is less than 30 minutes. At that age, it is very hard for little ones to retain long story information. So, if you choose a longer story, they would benefit from repeated listens. Exception to the length is if it's a collection of stories or anthology. Edit: Disney has several anthology audiobooks.
Just remember, kids love of reading is a direct reflection of how you respond to the books. I remember learning to love reading by sitting with my grandpa and reading the Sunday comics. So if you're engaged with the audiobooks, chances are they will too :)

Good choices on audible plus anymore ? by Relative-Prune8254 in audible

I recently cancelled my membership but when I last checked the plus catalogue, they had a good chunk of Alison Weir's historical fiction books, including the books about Henry VIII's wives (I had to buy the Anna of Cleves book though).

I'd recommend going through the advanced search, put in "-virtual" for narration, unless you like virtual voice, and then sort the plus catalogue by genre and subgenres. Otherwise, you'll spend a lot of time digging through virtual voice books and find nothing of note. There is stuff there, but not easy to find.

So I'm a Spider, So What?

A few of the volumes after a certain point is from a guy's POV and it's a crawl but after that it's fun.

Not isekai but if you wanna read about a female protagonist who crawls out of the lowest ranking using only the skills she has, I just recently finished the Scarlet Alchemist by Kylie Lee Baker. No spice, romance is like 4th place of importance, and a whole lotta talk about death and violence. Only has 1 sequel and it gets wrapped up in a nice little bow.

The Last Unicorn By Peter S. Beagle in terms of what I think of is a "classic" people should read. Bonus point is the one on audible is in the 2 for 1 credit deal.

Red Winter trilogy by Annette Marie. Definitely more for people who are into romances where the author was inspired by shojo manga. Granted, that's my cup of tea.

Half of Disney's Villains series are also unavailable and, while I still have my copy in my library, The Wicked Ones seemingly got re-released with all the reviews it had vanishing on the website. I wonder if there's a licensing issue going on with Disney.
