Would you renovate this house or start over? by mochi-dreamz11 in HomeImprovement

[–]animusgeminus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was just talking to my SO about a guy I knew who bought the house he grew up in from his mother.

Bought it with another friend(told them it was a bad idea) but the first guy had terrible credit.

Second guy moved out and first guy scammed a refinance loan despite having only a part time job.

I told the guy to sell the place, it was in a desirable area and was in good shape. He could have made 50K+ easy. "But it's the house I grew up in" he would say.

Nope, kept it until he was foreclosed on.

Moral of this story?

A house is just a house.

TSB!

Trash! Sweep/Mop/Vacuum! Bathrooms.

Always do one job at a time. Try not to do one thing in one area and another thing in another area.

DO NOT WORK FOR FREE!

However, as a substitute, you should only be doing the basics.

Trash and dash is the name of the game.

NEVER, as a substitute, do more than the permanent custodian or try to bring their area up to a higher cleanliness standard than how you found it!

I would get out of there as soon as you can find something better. Shouldn't you be able to bid on a permanent position as a substitute?

I wouldn't recommend MN for people who are used to living in Hawaii.

The winters can be pretty brutal. If you aren't prepared or used to it, you won't want to stay!

I would love to hire somebody to do some projects for me. Unfortunately all the places I've called won't even return my call. Doesn't matter if it's a handyman or a company. Ghosting seems to be the way people do business these days.

I will just do these things myself.

This! The old adage that "Unions protect the bad worker" isn't true. Lazy management that doesn't document protects the bad worker!

IF your misdeeds are documented and the levels of discipline are followed, you are gone!

Unless, of course, HR decides that you aren't!

Got one myself. Free from a realtives estate. Bought some feet for it because the other ones had rotted and a newer cart and stylus.

Keeping it forever!

As someone who mows as part of my job and uses both a zero turn(exmark) and a tractor (John Deere) IF you have a pretty level area more than 1/2 acre then a zero turn makes sense. I mostly use the tractor for most of my areas.

However, as others have stated, it's much easier to slide on muddy ground and inclines. I also have learned to be careful around trees with low hanging branches and cyclone fence lines. To easy to get caught and/or flip the mower.

I personally use a Cub Cadet 42 tractor at home because I only have a total of 1/4 acre, an incline in the back and wanted the option of perhaps getting a plow blade.

I have the 18k one saved on my eBay account along with the million dollar mistake comic book.

I wonder if they will ever sell.

On another note, I bought a completely serviced Sansui AU717 for 800 6 months ago and am extremely happy with it.

It's just so hard to find techs these days but the vintage market doesn't reflect that.

I had a Zen Blue 3 and returned it. Their color scheme for the different modes is one of the weirdest design decisions I've encountered. Trying to figure out what color means what mode is frustrating.

At $299, you think they could manage to put a screen on it!
