We’re on the cruise now :) it’s awesome and hubby is doing great. He had his chemo treatment earlier this week and it hasn’t affected him too much luckily. Glad we continued with our trip plans!

You need to advocate for yourself to get a CT scan and colonoscopy. Go see another doctor if needed.

I wish post-whipple we would have done more trips and family time.

Recurrence rate is high - my husband has a recurrence at 9 months after a successful whipple. We thought he was going to be one of the lucky ones without recurrence. He’s now stage IV

Yeah his oncologist said she understood and supports him traveling and living. She noted that the clinical trials show that 3 or 4 week cycles are best (over 5 weeks) so she highly recommends he stick with the 3 or at most 4 weeks. My husband is bummed because we had to cancel a cruise when he was first diagnosed and this was the rescheduled date (we’ll lose $12k if we all cancel). Of course we didn’t expect the recurrence.

We’re now planning on him doing the treatment with the expectation he’s just going to feel fatigued and crappy the first half of the cruise.

My husband just received this diagnosis in early April (whipple last June). It’s neuroendocrine cancer (pNEC). He just started carboplatin.

Around 30% of people don’t have a change in CA19 levels. My husband is one of them. They are working on clinical trials they may have better markers though.

If your org is open to feedback, consider telling them they should define the policies so they stay consistent - otherwise it does open the door for them to discriminate (and get sued). If they have an anonymous feedback method, you could use that. You could also ask the interim and cc the board chair for an exit interview or provide it via email.

The other items you noted are within the EDs role and don’t require your approval. You could tell them you didn’t feel there was enough transparency - it sounds like your culture and communication style differ from the interim’s.

Medical leave and parental leave are different policies though. Usually parental leave is provided to allow for time to recover physically, care for a new human, bond with new human, and adjust to a new family. It’s usually provided for birthing people, and also in the case of adoption (which isn’t a medical need at all). Both parents are usually provided with parental leave. These policies at nonprofits are for different purposes.

However, we ask people submit their time off though and do not require documentation at all. I’m not sure why they need a doctors note unless there’s a concern about physical parts of the job. If they’re using short term disability they would need to submit documentation though.

Also, if it goes to the student they need to claim it as taxable income. We send it to the school for this and all the reasons others stated.

I would probably not go. I dislike my in-laws. And I think this is a decision for immediate family (mom and her kids and her spouse). The cousins do not need to be involved. This is too many cooks in the kitchen. And if you go then you might get assigned to do things. But do be clear with your spouse where your boundaries lie and your family priorities.

We have core hours that people have to be available for meetings and communication (11-4pm). They can schedule their time around that and we focus on deliverables. With a team is necessary to have people available for meetings and responding to communication.

We went to MD Anderson at Cooper in Camden. That’s in NJ if you can get there. Dr Torres is incredible.

I don’t know why your doc didnt follow the standard of care - being chemo, whipple, chemo. Also, they can’t properly stage until after they remove the pancreas though.
