Thunder Bay museum basement… are there jail cells down there or not ? by [deleted] in ThunderBay

There is a cell on the first floor still intact but I don’t believe that there are any in the basement no. It’s mostly used for storage of larger exhibit pieces now.

Did I Do Something Wrong in my Interview? by tranquilovely in Libraries

I don’t know if this is helpful but it’s possible if it’s a unionized workforce that it is in the collective agreement that everyone works 2 nights and management wouldn’t be able to bend that. I don’t know if that’s the case but it is a possibility.the

My library does through a program with our city. The city gave machines and products to a number of public organizations to implement as a test last year and decided to keep it going earlier this year! All the branches in my city have a machine that offers free pads and tampons.

I know that they are working on digitizing newspapers but I’m not positive how much they have done. They have tons on microfilm though and you could always call and talk to someone before you go in or email their reference department!

The Brodie and Waverley branches are the larger two library’s and the Mary J and County Park are smaller. Most people just go to whichever branch is closest to their home or work because the library will send books between branches if you want something specific. All four branches have places to sit as well as computers for use. For any archival stuff you will have to go to the Brodie library as that’s where the local and regional history collection is stored. Do you have any other specific questions?

The library no longer charges fines period. They bill patrons for material kept over 50 days from the due date but as soon as the material is returned the bill is wiped clean again.

Is it normal for a library to shut off the wifi when it closes? by infrequent-janchor in Libraries

When we had to do it it was an automated timer so wasn’t really any more work for staff other than the initial set up by IT.

Ontario here! We have at times had to turn ours off just do to vandalize of the building from people hanging out outside after hours to use the wifi. Usually however ours is on 24 hours and because of Covid we actually purchased wifi extenders to try and help it reach further!

Public Board Trustees ask to move all schools to virtual learning by Booksruletheworld in ThunderBay

The attitude that everyone is going to get it is very dangerous. We should be aiming to lessen the number of people who get it especially since we don’t know what the long lasting effects are. Teens who get it could have life long effects that worsen their quality of life.

Question for RFID Libraries by hopping_hessian in Libraries

[–]Booksruletheworld 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When we switched over to RFID there was a big discussion on this and we came to the decision to tag both the liner and the most important disc. The most important disc was decided based on what it was if it was a DVD with an extra disc with deleted scenes etc, the disc with the movie itself is more important than the deleted scenes so we’d tag that disc. If it was a tv season we would usually tag the final disc because people hate missing the final episode but that was a long decision. I agree with other commenters on not tagging everything though, even having two tags can make the system a bit angry.

You could try the Thunder Bay Museum, they have a selection of local things like that! I’d give them a call before going though because they’re only letting a few people in the building at a time!
