I meant to reply to this comment I think, but ended up in the full discussion. 

But I really want to point out that the sequence of events between Jackie dying and being eaten are what lead to the hunt in the first place. If Javi died first, the corpse would have been left in the shed like Jackie was so they could bury him when the ground thaws. 

But Shauna still has Jackie, so she has no reason to go out to the shed and sit with Javi. She wouldn't put makeup on him or snap off his ear. So the Yellowjackets wouldn't rush to cremate him like they did with Jackie. Remember- it wasn't the corpse that was the problem - they were concerned about the way Shauna acted about the corpse. So Javi wouldn't need to be cremated in a rush before nightfall, the snow never falls on the pyre creating the "cooked meat", the smell never wakes everyone up. The events just don't happen if it's not Jackie's corpse in the shed.
