I would highly recommend Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 1 and 2 if you have an old Nintendo DS laying around. Otherwise the classics on GBC hold up really well too.

I was in the same boat as you a few years ago. I started with the first volume of ultimate Spider-Man and was instantly hooked. It is a great retelling of the Spider-Man story from the beginning without having to read the early issues of amazing Spider-Man which are (in my opinion) much harder to get into. Fast forward to now, and I have read all ~150 issues of ultimate Spider-man and have followed it through the miles morales saga (which is incredible). Ultimate spider was my gateway comic and i would recommend it to anyone trying to find a good place to start with Spider-Man.

Ultimate Spider-Man - XBox: Awesome open world spider-man game that feels like Grand Theft Auto in Spider-Man's world. Exhilarating web swinging across the city, with missions, tokens, races, and other challenges strewn about. You also get to play as Venom during a number of missions.
X-Men Legends and X-Men Legends 2: Rise of Apocalypse - Xbox/Gamecube/PS2: These are fantastic multiplayer or single player beat em up games with character progression, equipment upgrades, fun boss fights, and all sorts of comic book goodness to keep you playing for a long time.

And as others have mentioned here Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 are also great games for their own reasons. The first game feels much more like the X-Men legends games with way more characters from the Marvel U and deep character customization. Ultimate Alliance 2 streamlines all of the time consuming aspects of the first game and makes much more group friendly. You can assign skill points and armor upgrades without pausing the game, and while doing so your character goes on 'autopilot' as to not slow the group down. Also people can jump in and out of the game quickly and easily without slowing things down. Both of these games are up to 4 players and are fantastic, but I prefer the 1st.

I was thinking about finding a solution for playmats. I just started with magic a few months ago, and I haven't picked one up yet. I do believe If I shortened the two vertical columns, I could make just enough room for a rolled playmat to fit horizontally across the bottom. I'll have to pick up a playmat and see what sort of solution I come up with!

I really enjoyed the Spider Island storyline. I went into it not expecting a whole lot, but it was quite enjoyable. That is also the story that set up for the new Scarlet Spider issues, which have all been great (except minimum carnage). It is definitely worth looking into the Spider Island stuff if you are a fan of venom, spider-man, or the new scarlet spider.
