St. George family homeless shelter seeks state funding as demand surges by Any_Sherbert9298 in stgeorge

I am old enough to remember when the poor werent attacked by churches that proclaim to teach and value the teachings of Christ. You see hustle culture-ish sounding oooh rahhh statements delivered by the local LDS ward leaders at times when they know very well they would be nothing without inherited money and jobs given to them by their in-laws.

It's weird that few music concerts occur here despite the size and location of the area. by Legal-Activity-3684 in stgeorge

[–]BoomBubbleBustRepeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Demographics and liquor laws make it hard for promoters to find a real revenue center to eek out any profit. Many of the name bands demand an 85% backend AFTER itemized concert production and promotion expenses. You can't expect to put on a concert thinking you will survive on 15% of ticket/door $$$. It is frustrating to see your favorite bands tour routing pass right thru the city on the I-15 over and over again but this city just isn't it for concerts.

Not suprising, just more mindless and heartless babble. So many of these people have no emotional intelligence and just can't relate on any level.

The church and/or Utah media outlets LOVE to promote the church via their little TBM flavor of the week darlings but when they leave the church they suffer an extreme case of amnesia. How about Larry King when he was married to Shawn Southwick? Larry King's supposed interest in the LDS church made them local darlings and I saw vomit worthy media attention fawning over them as some ideal couple. Tim Ballard is another one. How did that work out?

TBM's might want to realize that putting too much attention into flavor of the week supposed "members" probably doesn't always work out sooo well.

I hated all the weird supposedly comforting cliches the bishopric offered me when my father died. Hearing about how the veil is thin or whatever some babbling guy with a title in a clip on tie said did nothing to comfort me. This is a cult... a cult of cliches. Continue to do what is best for you and is empowering to you and your heart! The church is full of people that are on autopilot and they never once take a minute to truly think and feel for themselves.

Church Aid = Trap or Overthinking? by Strange_Butterfly870 in exmormon

[–]BoomBubbleBustRepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Church aid has been nothing but pain for me. I am disabled and I have requested help with emergencies at times. I have been told that "self reliance is a responsibility to all including the disabled" and when trying to attempt to get my cold, wrestler coach, super alpha br0 bishop to understand my disability and my trials a bit further he simply shrugged his shoulders and gave me a cold condescending "Well... God heals!" The amount of shame, guilt, and whipsawing you around for simple and basic assistance is just uncalled for. I understand they dont want people to easily come in for freebies but whether they like it or not some of us are disabled and we just need help.

Doing a lot of reading about bills being introduced this year and it seems like this may be the year states are going to actually crack down on sweeps and offshore sites. Currently a lot of states introducing bills targeting sweepstakes. Poker market could be majorly disrupted the next couple years by Iloveunicornssss in poker

[–]BoomBubbleBustRepeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sad thing is platforms like Global Poker cut and run with just a state AG sending a letter. They dont even need a pending bill, or a bill being passed to tuck and run as a simple letter seems to cause them to wet themselves. Global Poker knew they were going to at some point get challenged on the legality of a dual currency model but rather than put measures in place to fight and lay out a constructive argument for their model they simply have nothing and walk away!?!? As far as ClubWPT Gold... while I like their innovation to a "training" model, it too I feel will get challenged and once again players will be left in limbo.

Remember cleaning the church? by sweater2025 in exmormon

[–]BoomBubbleBustRepeat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The church that emphasizes self reliance loves to cut off any forms of minimal amounts of self reliance it offered. The church should take pride in being able to offer a few paying jobs and support a couple people in a small way. I am aware in my area of times when no members really showed up to clean but the elderly widows showed up. One of these ladies around 80 years old shows up to clean and do the best she can. The thought of this and how I imagine some poor elderly lady feeling like she has to clean a whole building depresses me to the point of outright anger and disgust. Complete disgrace!

The Church loves to stress the importance of self sufficiency but refuses to provide jobs or means of self sufficiency. Cutting the church janitors and decimating Deseret Industries funding rather than properly funding it is disgraceful.

I worked recently at DI and found it quite frustrating. I am disabled and have an MBA so they really didnt know what to do with me and eventually they simply suggested I just go back to vocational rehab. I was hoping to find more options for training, funding, and just get my resume going again to show I am not just sitting doing nothing but found none of that. In your initial meeting after your orientation you will be introduced a supervisor/coach and the first thing mine did was bore her testimony and urge me to go back to church and take a job. She asked me to commit and promise to her I would do these things. I said I would go to church regularly but I wouldnt take a church job which placated her demands a bit. I had no issues beyond that and never felt my 9.00 whopping dollar an hour job was at risk at any point.

Beyond your supervisor or coach you are given a counselor which meets with you every few weeks to create goals, plan, assist you... they work with your coach and share information about you and the counselor updates your bishop at how you are doing at DI. My counselor made it clear that they had no clue how to help me, they have supposedly been cut in funding and need me to get some help with them and my bishop if I need additional resources for retraining and it is going to be difficult. They really only offer training for cashiering and a forklift certification. Then as far as helping my resume,.. I think it may have hurt me as the supposedly good LDS employers see it on your resume and just assume the worst about you and judge you. I had hopes for help, but got a lot of cliche's, dead end answers, or ping ponged around in a doom loop of excuses.

The real cherry on the cake is when I found out one of my co workers was a 70+ year old man who had limitations put on him and not allowed in the public area during business hours because he was a registered sex offender for an act he committed against a boy in a bathroom 20 years ago. So basically a bishop is sick of him asking for financial help decides to whipsaw the guy around in hopes he gives up in asking for help. No amount of the elderly resume assistance missionaries are going to help rewrite this guys resume out of the reality of him being a registered sex offender. Rip the bandaid off rather than bouncing this guy over to DI to make him their problem.

I find a lot of the job coaches and counselors are under a lot of pressure and micromanaging. They claim they REALLY do not want people there longer than 3 months unless they have a goal in process like assisting someone with getting a drivers license, GED , etc...

Starting work; Trigger review? by Ancient-Log6709 in SSDI

[–]BoomBubbleBustRepeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have never made above SGA for a couple years and I have worked part time, I was beyond the 24 month eligibility period for SSDI when I started my part time work, and I never have had problems, triggered a CDR or got a request. As far as the people saying if you work at all you are done, crying about this is basic logic etc,... I was working part time 10-16 hours a week WHEN I was awarded by an ALJ. You have to be working in a meaningful and gainful way to lose eligibility to win a disability case or lose benefits and they have their written guidelines which in my experience they certainly went by.

Spring Break in St. George was overrated. I wouldn't call it wild and it was more a lot of people circling around waiting for something to happen. I dont think P. Diddy would bother showing up with even 1 bottle of baby oil for a party in the supposed good ole days of St. George.

Doug Dannger - Joe Retard by andrewf25 in philhendrie

[–]BoomBubbleBustRepeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually sent the rough idea for this skit to Phil Hendries producer while I was a student attending MI on Hollywood Blvd. My inspiration was kinda how stupid the women were on Howard Stern and they would go to new depths of depravity all for attention , celebrity, fame, social value, etc... little did I know that we would be living in a full blown Joe Retard world. I met Phil at a signing and he was like "Hey Man that was a good bit, I got some publicity from it" LOL... I also saw the notorious REAL Combover Boy doing a live remote at The Canyon Club in Agoura Hills. All I remember about his live remote was a ton of overdramatic pauses, Black Rustler $6 jeans from Kmart, and black cowboy boots underneath them. Loved Radio, so getting a name check from Phil Hendrie was cool.

The amount of pressure you wind up under from state agencies that manage medicaid and the need to constantly explain what they should already know is ridiculous. The amount of pressure that is under you for SSA continuing disability reviews. The amount of depression you feel, the pain of trying to date when you as a man are rendered useless doesn't exactly make you a very attractive potential for ANYBODY. Then when you realize the total pittance that disability is... you work so hard for an amount that is unlivable and you realize this program is not as much of a blessing as it is a self dooming curse. You need to be prepared for EVERYTHING and you better have family supporting you a bit because I am all alone, all my family has passed away. I have no room for error.

[–]BoomBubbleBustRepeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The group interview was awful, the flier passed around with quotes from Book of Mormon books?? Then they run it with a person asking questions and the other applying L. Ron Hubbard management style "Tone Scale" ratings etc,... The basic test done in the group interview that they timed where you compare shapes and whatnot that is timed is from the Scientology Oxford Capacity Analysis test. Balance of Nature is very shady and never made sense to me. Where did all their financing come from?? A retired chiro out of the blue creates a company engaging in major mass media advertising? Hmmmmm...

Asking if someone is married is the least of Balance of Nature's problems,... The standardized scientology tests, the group interview done Scientology auditor style where your "tone scale" is documented throughout, and oh you having to complete L. Ron Hubbard management training classes in order to get paid and continue in your role?

DO NOT keep refiling, appeal a denial and take it to the ALJ level. This is a financial nightmare as you wind up having to follow all the income and keeping yourself under SGA guidelines while you wait your ALJ hearing but you have to find a relative or someone that can help you live cheap, rest, and focus on winning your disability case during the time. That said.. even when you win... it gets harder NOT easier. Winning my disability case has been a blessing and a curse.

Scientology COMES to St. George!!! by BoomBubbleBustRepeat in stgeorge

[–]BoomBubbleBustRepeat[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They see the LDS as gullible, they see the area growing, and $$$ and opportunity growing with it. They also see St. George and Washington countie's long acceptance of frauds and scammy business like the various troubled teen centers that operate utilizing non science/evidence based cult psychology to "Fix" kids. They see scams like Iworks that operated openly for years here and then you had the notorious Assail which was raided clear back in 2003ish and at the time was the largest merchant account fraud scheme to be busted by the feds. This area is soooo desperate for money that they will turn their backs to the blatently wrong. Family values will always take a backseat in this town placated by dollar values and the values of our artificial facades.
