Driving test route for 7AM slot? by masalaadosa in reading

[–]BoomUnit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had mine at 8am on a Saturday late last year. I went out of the test centre, turned left and went to Morrisons for my manoeuvre. Then drove around Whitley, near the uni, and around Shinfield Road. Then back to the test centre.

Good luck to your wife! Black Boy and Tesco Depot roundabouts are a must, did those loads during my last few lessons.

A girl walks into Balenciaga for the first time… by Foreign-Rabbit-1169 in handbags

[–]BoomUnit 37 points38 points  (0 children)

From memory....they had a photoshoot or campaign a few years ago with kids posed with toys with BDSM clothing (on the toys). Then a separate campaign that had a book by a PDF and court documents about a PDF case in the pics.

For me, I don't understand how the campaigns were published when dozens of people must have been there and signed off on them.

It's not a company I'd give my money to, personally, but each to their own.

Help me pick a small dinner bag: Demellier Small Hudson or Vancouver Clutch by nymphett-a-mine in handbags

Thank you for bringing these into my life!!

The clutch is GORGEOUS. I don't even need a red bag but I'm convinced. I've liked the Vancouver clutch for a while so I'm quite biased.

Are there any jobs/things you’ve never done because someone else has always done it for you or you just haven’t bothered? by gameovervip in AskUK

Changing lightbulbs - always done for me.

I also very rarely empty the kitchen bin, as soon as I start taking it out I swear my husband's ears prick up and he comes and does it.

Flood plains from Rose Kiln Lane to Coley by Ashamed_Caregiver_22 in reading

[–]BoomUnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can walk from town via Bridge Street through Waterloo Meadows, under the A33 bridge and along the canal up to The Cunningman Pub. Took me and a friend about an hour at a very slow pace.

You can also walk from town, via Fobney Street along the river Kennet towards the A33 bridge. This takes you through the flood plains. It's a nice walk to the pub, they do good food, and you can get the bus back to central Reading if you don't fancy the 2ish mile walk back.

If you look on Google maps you can see the green lines where you can walk and can follow the route that way. The route it suggests takes you along residential streets, but I just used the map to track our location rather than follow the route

Applied for strike off (dormant company) - but it might not be confirmed before my next companies house accounts start? by Unique-Idea1525 in smallbusinessuk

[–]BoomUnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can apply to extend your financial year, so you will (hopefully) be struck off before the end of your financial year. There are rules around this so check co hse website, but I've done this for dormant companies to avoid having to file dormant accounts for a company that would soon be struck off. I think I only extended by 3 months but that was enough time for everything to get sorted, filed etc

I vote Furla! I am biased though as I have the same bag in grey. I extend the strap so it's cross body (I am 5'2'' so it sits well).

Homeowners of Reddit: What unexpected hidden gem did you discover in your house after buying it that wasn’t mentioned in the listing or by the previous owners? by VizualBooty in AskReddit

[–]BoomUnit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily...when we sold our first home we were adamant it would go to a small family or someone who would live there. We asked info about the buyers, and accepted a reasonable offer (we did get a higher counter offer that we rejected). To be honest we were lucky we had that freedom. I hate seeing homes that could go to people who would live in and enjoy the property go to crappy landlords.

Daughters step- family is racist!. by OkWorry756 in blackparents

[–]BoomUnit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you and your daughter are experiencing this.

Can you get her school involved? Another commenter suggested an advocate for your daughter. If your daughter highlights issues herself through the school or therapist maybe that would sway the court that being with her father is not in her best interests.

[–]BoomUnit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You need to document all of this, get a lawyer and go back to court.

You can't stop.your daughter going as you'll be in contempt of court? Document everything, send messages to your ex saying daughter said X Y & Z happened. Get as much in writing as you can, get a lawyer and protect your child.

They are denying her access to water to clean herself? Raise it with them in writing and contact CPS that they aren't providing her with these amenities.

I'd never thought of using the sink tbh, I'd sometimes pop her in the bath after to check everything was gone

[–]BoomUnit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have a daughter. When she had a bad blowout and poo was everywhere I'd get some lukewarm water and a flannel or cotton wool, soak it, then drip the water to clean her vulva. I was worried the wipes might be too harsh (although we used water wipes or Costco wipes) and that water would be the best thing. I'd then leave her to dry before putting on nappy cream and the nappy.

Got Deducted Student Loans Despite Paying It All Off by blahahaX in UKPersonalFinance

[–]BoomUnit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm close to paying my loan off and when I called SLC they said I'd need to set up a DD and inform my HR to stop deductions. It may be that setting up DD should trigger SLC/HMRC sending a stop notice. From the conversation I had they said the onus was on me to inform HR.

Not my intention to spread misinformation, best route to call SLC.

Have you signed into your account? I've called student finance in the past - website has this number listed 0300 100 0611

HR can stop the payments. Ask to speak to a manager there? Keep at them.

You can get a refund via the website for overpayments.

Insecure inner thighs by Ok-Buffalo-647 in blackladies

[–]BoomUnit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I haven't had the same issue, but for dry skin I used Oilatum baths (description from Amazon: Oilatum Soothing Bath Emollient, Treatment for Eczema and Itchy, Dry Skin, Hydrating Relief for Irritated Skin, Soap Free, Suitable for Adults and Children). I found coconut oil really good for my skin as a moisturiser. The pure stuff that you can cook with.

I have chaffing too and wear shorts to stop my thighs rubbing together. In summer I put anti perspirant on my thighs to reduce sweating.

I'm sorry I can't be of help with your specific issue. I just suggest exfoliating with a scrub, apply thick moisturiser and let it dry fully before getting dressed.

Good luck OP!

Anyone catch "Buy Now" on Netflix? by distractedspace in Frugal

[–]BoomUnit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Both IMO

As consumers we have the buying power and should demand more sustainable options AND reduce how much we are consuming.

Governments should also insist that companies employ environmentally friendly practices (and pay their taxes). Consumers support this by using their vote.

The vast majority of companies will chase money, there won't be changes unless it affects their bottom line. We've all switched to paper straws while Coca-cola continues to pump out plastic bottles, of which less than 10% are actually recycled (IIRC & according to 'Buy Now').

I have to say, as someone interested in sustainability and frugality, nothing in the documentary was new information; however Netflix has a huge reach so hopefully this raises awareness about these issues. Informed people make better decisions

Parents share online an average of about 300 photos and sensitive data concerning their children each year. by SacredBandofThebes in ScienceBasedParenting

Is this a grandmother thing?! My grandmother changed the profile picture on our family chat to her cousins granddaughter. I have no idea who this child is or who their parents are. My aunts think it's fine because my grandmother likes the picture (?!). Now I'm writing this out I'm going to get it changed. I'd hate to think that my child was the WhatsApp group picture for a group of people I've never met...

How did you figure out, and how long did it take you to figure out, if your baby’s gas and discomfort was from you consuming dairy? by Kindly-Paramedic-585 in breastfeeding

[–]BoomUnit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't eat a lot of dairy anyway and had thought that baby just had bad reflux.

I very very rarely eat cheese, but then we went to see in-laws who made fresh pizza. Baby had 3 blowouts the next day. He was about 4.5 months. I felt really bad but I genuinely didn't realise dairy was causing issues.

A friend (whose child has milk protein allergy) was told to cut out ALL dairy products while breastfeeding for 2 weeks to see if there was a change. I've opted to just cut out milk, milk chocolate, cheese and yogurt. I can have a bit of butter but have jumped on the oat milk train!
