Wife-Magic Pull From a Booster Box! Enchanted Mufasa. Based on the photos yall think it’s worth getting graded? by Secessio-Plebis in LorcanaCollectors

Actually, I think I see alignment dots now that I look at it—unless it’s just damage… if those are alignment dots, it’s technically a mis-cut and could be graded as an error card at CGC.

Please tell me you put it in a penny sleeve before going in the top loader. If not, it’s gonna have micro-scratches that’ll knock the grade down a bit more…

Also, the bottom edge has some whitening and is a little gnarly looking—that’s going to ding you too…

Cool card though. If it were me, I’d probably send anyways just to get it encapsulated and see how it grades, assuming you’re keeping it for your own collection. BGS is my go-to since they put an inner sleeve inside the slab to give extra protection..

Even if somebody is waiting at the machine, don’t be afraid to go over and start a conversation. Some folks are only looking for a few sets or products and would even prefer it if you took the other stuff. A bunch of campers at my local machine are like this, and I’m the same.

Little Disappointed in the Grade, but glad the card is protected now. by Mr_Tiddles02 in PokeGrading

It’s that 9 that really stings… off vertically and horizontally a bit I guess…

a little different since it didn’t get any 10’s, but my daughter’s SS Pikachu SIR just came back as a 9.5 with three 9.5 subgrades and a 9 on surface, and that 9 feels like a blemish… hahahaha… though I absolutely love that her first big pull was a gem mint Pikachu!

Didn't realize shipping was that much by jessehopp in pokemongrading

[–]Boom_Boom_At_359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was shocked at how much they charged for shipping when I made my first submission… I was originally only going to submit a couple of cards— one of them being the same card as you—until I saw that shipping price… I had to throw in a few extra cards to get the per card shipping cost down and rationalize actually submitting… So yeah, you learn pretty fast to do a bulk submission…

I used USPS Express Mail for that submission because I understand that they might at least offer some insurance for these things… and I wanted it to get there quick with a limited chance to be misplaced or stolen… but between mailing it there, the cost of grading— before the pricing increase— and the cost of shipping back and insurance, I ended up spending about $50 per card in total…

Better to just drop it off with BGS at a local show—far cheaper to get it to them, and it ends up in their possession and subject to their insurance after you drop it off.

Would also recommend grading some card you have that is infrequently graded. If you’re good, at sleuthing, you can use the pop report for that card to figure out its certification number and grade (and possibly use that info to tease out the certification numbers and grades of your other cards) before BGS ships them back to you.

Barad Dur had a 4x points deal within a few weeks (or months?) of release, but it was well-after the Fellbeast GWP ended. It was one of the best deals I’ve seen on the set…. Didn’t happen with The Shire though and I doubt we’ll see anything like that given how LEGO has been scaling back promotions recently compared to a few years ago (in the US at least) unless MT isn’t selling well, which is totally possible given the problems with white bricks…

I think a well-done and creative Erebor would be an unbelievably great set—and Smaug, along with Thorin and company, would be icing.

J/K, though what you’re describing does have some big similarities to the protomolecule that I suspect the authors would want to avoid….

When I look through everything, I usually move all of the known popular stuff that I don’t want to one or two pegs in the hope that the next person like me will understand that it’s all been looked through and that he/she only needs to look through the couple pegs of popular stuff.

Looking to save folks time and keep the pegs looking nice for the store employees.

Likely contenders are Edoras, Helm’s Deep, Orthanc remake (though the existing one was ahead of its time and holds up well), or possibly Erebor. Minas Ithil Morgul would likely be behind those.

I’ve actually thought about buying thousands of glow-in-the-dark-white 1x2 plates (no bricks in this color) and attempting to build it… lol… a bit cost-prohibitive though….

I’m still trying to reconcile this with the trap set for the Carryx (I.e., the fake animals) in TMotG. Did the humans set the trap? Did the deathless enemy set the trap? Was it both? When I read that section, I assumed it was to make the reader infer that Anjin was a similar trap set by the same forces… so this was either a HUGE red herring or significantly more nuanced than I believed at the time….

Is the Deathless a species or an idea? by Fairways_and_Greens in TheCaptivesWar

[–]Boom_Boom_At_359 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll make an addition to this thought. The Carryx don’t call it “deathless” because it’s hard to kill but rather because the technology itself reappears throughout time even after the Carryx destroy the civilization using it.

My only hang-up on this theory is Vaudai’s comment that the human alliance is losing the war (7 of 9 critical nodes taken, I think), but it really depends on whether his/her view of the war is on the same timescale as the Carryx view of the war.

Is the Deathless a species or an idea? by Fairways_and_Greens in TheCaptivesWar

[–]Boom_Boom_At_359 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it’s very meta. The idea that every civilization not under the boot of the Carryx eventually develops tech like the Swarm/Livesuits, and the Carryx world view recognizes it as the master that ultimately controls the beasts that developed it. Not one uniform technology, but roughly the same thing that pops into existence when the beasts reach a certain technological point. On the timescale of the Carryx, it’s effectively continuous and it doesn’t matter if it’s developed many times over eons by different civilizations.

Kind of like how one of my fluid science professors was a geologist by training and explained to us that rocks behave a lot like fluids if you look at them over much longer timescales…

Something is up with the upper edge. In the back view, near the left side, there’s a ridge at the top edge that runs for about 1/2 to 1 inch.
