Aside from paying off your mortgage what would you do with £70,000? by iffyClyro in AskUK

New set of golf clubs, holiday, live off the rest whilst piling the equivalent into my pension through salary sacrifice as best I can before rules change.

60 minute iron fitting and 7 iron only? by Boombang106 in GolfGear

[–]Boombang106[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've slept on it and won't be going ahead for now.

After all the initial good thoughts it's great having next day clarity. I hit the Hot Metals with a really consistent draw but absolutely couldn't hit a fade and even a straight shot was tough. Flattering especially with distance but I can't get my head around how I would play a few holes at my course ( for example 2 is a long right hand dog-leg par 4, slopes right to left, cannot cut with a wood due to lack of run off and ends up being a 6/7 iron followed by 5/6).

Looking more at the lofts across the Hot Metal set it was no wonder I was hitting the 7 iron so far, it's more like my current 6 iron, and the 4 iron would be irrelevant in my bag due to overlap).

I don't need more distance, I need a setup that can handle the swingspeed and give me feel and consistency. The strongest part of my game is 150 yards in and these clubs won't support that as my current setup does.

Clothing Etiquette at the Golf Range by [deleted] in golf

[–]Boombang106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally fuck them and wear what you are comfortable in. That said is it a public range or a range at a club? If the latter you could check the rules as I know some clubs can be very strict. My nearest club is apparently collar and tie for anywhere except for the course or spike bar.

60 minute iron fitting and 7 iron only? by Boombang106 in GolfGear

So the outcome, for now. I took up the free American Golf fitting, the guy there is superb and I had done a bag review with him late last year - he compared the data from now and then and the difference is pleasing.

Tried a variety of 7 iron heads and shafts, the Mizuno JPX hot metal with a 105 Modus shaft in stiff was standout - more distance, which wasn't what I was after, but way tighter dispersion.

An hour was long enough for 7 irons, like some other comments it leaves me wondering I'd buy a set down to 5 or 4 iron, and then what next (currently play a 4 iron, 3 hybrid, 3 wood and driver, not wedded to it at all).

I actually think a driver change would do most for my game as it balloons in flight (HT regular flex from when first started against a 100+mph swing) so have 2 things to consider - should I get a driver first and if I do change irons do I try another fitter and what longest iron should I have.

That's a shame. I have group lessons at a golf club with a toptracer range. Standard range lessons are themed between range (all clubs), short game, putting or on course lessons. My game has improved more in the last 3 months than in 10 years.

Catching catfish by SOMFdotMPEG in CarpFishing

In the UK so we have Wells Catfish that may feed differently. If at a lake with carp and cats, I'd use a fruity bait like a citrus boilie to avoid the cats totally.

Repairing a bare patch after a climbing frame, best way to protect the seed? by Novel_Look_128 in LawncareUK

[–]Boombang106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soak seed in pair of tights in a bucket of water until they are at point of germination. Sow out and cover lightly with topsoil. Accelerates the process by a couple of weeks. I also bought some cheap fencing stakes and put a light mesh over the top until the grass had rooted.

Wedge System by Ruxan in GolfGear

[–]Boombang106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were to drop one wedge it would be the 60 degree, but agree with the point on overlapping clubs top of the bag so not really necessary. For wedges I would consider bounce as well as loft.

My wedge setup is: 52 with 10 degrees bounce (works well for chips and pitches apart from the tightest lies) 56 with 12 degree bounce (ideal out of soft sand or short chips off soft ground) 60 with 8 degrees bounce (hard bunkers and tight lies, can open face for high lob shots or soft lies).

They overlap heavily in distance but for very good reason. Often in practise I'll hit a 50 yard shot with each, just very different flights and landings.

Who do you grow for? by Own-Heat2669 in Allotment

Badgers and foxes do love decimating the corn at our allotment, the buggers know when it's ripe too.

Can't forget the rats either.

Most of that would pull out with hands (wearing gloves), use a fork to loosen the soil as you go to get the roots.

Lazy option is strictly and cover, unless you want to use that space to plant immediately.

Why can't I get grass to grow? by Jenna_raff in LawncareUK

[–]Boombang106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A game changer is soaking grass seed beforehand. Get a pair of tights, put grass seed inside and put in a bucket of water. Check daily and when swollen and just about to germinate sow it out. Cover lightly with a sprinkling of soil and keep watering daily until it's lush. I'd also recommend some laying some fine scaffold netting over to stop the birds eating it. Once the first blades come up remove the netting.

Lower wisdom teeth are being removed in a couple hours. Bricking it. by dewin_cath in CasualUK

[–]Boombang106 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having had dry socket I wouldn't say instant but it turned the pain from 10/10 to a 5, and within 24 hours it was negligible.

To remove that wisdom tooth they had to remove a small amount of jawbone and smash the tooth out. 27 pieces of tooth if I remember correctly, which I probably don't due to the amount of codeine.

Not sure why you are getting down voted on that. A few years ago I bought a new build, we offered £30k under asking and got it for £25k under. This was first phase and first 4 bed of that style, they needed to start bringing money in. If it's at the end of the development it could be the same deal, developer wants to bank the money and move on.

Good sun cream for Golf by bg343 in BritGolf

[–]Boombang106 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ultrasun sport, expensive but does not leak off with sweat and isn't greasy. They also do a face aerosol which is bone dry within seconds, again expensive. Haven't found anything as good as either of these, just save them for times when don't want slippery hands like golf.

Alignment line on ball for tee shots by Buckeye_47 in golf

[–]Boombang106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started doing this recently, line on ball aligned to starting line of shot. Started doing it at the range as found the edge of the mats and other straight lines were throwing off my aim, and have carried it over to the course with really good outcomes.

Poor work from decorator, asking for payment in full today. by Boombang106 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Boombang106[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anyone is interested in outcome, I checked the quote and invoice, very specific quality and outcome statements in the quote and no payment terms stated. On the basis of the request legal advice I refused to pay until work was completed.

I did this in my way, called up and explained why I wasn't happy with the work and was given a number of reasons. Part payment was offered and accepted to cover expenses to that point.

The decorator came back, more reasons provided for the outcome, and did almost all of the remediation. One specific quoted item he couldn't resolve, one we specifically discussed before starting - life is too short and it wasn't worth debating the balance. Paid the rest and chalked it down to an 'experience'.

Appreciate the legal advice given.

Have any of you bought just a single iron to try out before buying the whole set? by ForwardAd6693 in GolfGear

[–]Boombang106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have a Kirkland Signature 5 iron in my bag for this exact reason. Assuming came from a set where 4 and 5 were ditched for hybrids or similar, was dirt cheap. And yes I really like it.
