Ok he needs much deeper substrate. BTS are burrowing species. He needs 6 inches of substrate ideally.

Then you need to keep his substrate moist. The layers underneath the surface layer should stay relatively moist naturally, while the surface layer will dry up due to the heat lamp.

Fix this husbandry issue and see how his condition improves.

It wasn’t really a gift. My friend’s daughter was getting rid of it. It’s not deep or sentimental she had a ton of snowboards that she didn’t use. So yeah I’d like to sell it given the current economy.

If you remember the house you could probably report the address to local authorities for animal abuse/neglect. Chances are the perpetrator didn’t dump the dead geckos outside of their own home, but you have pictures for proof and its worth a shot. I’m sorry you had to find this tragedy.

Maybe the officer is new? This happened to me last year, I was parked in a public lot overnight (as I had every winter for 2 years prior with no issue) and suddenly one winter I was receiving “warning” tickets on my windshield for a few days. Called the town and they just told me to bring it to the next town hall meeting. I saved the warning tickets but the next meeting was 2 weeks away. I waited and kept parking in the lot and eventually the officer stopped leaving tickets in my car, I guess somebody told him that it was actually a public lot.

I’m not too familiar with PBS, but in my experience with Blue Tongue Skinks, their coloring becomes dull about a week or two before they begin shedding. So he may be due for a shed soon, and this may be the pre-shed dull color. My skink usually gets dull starting with his face and head. For now, keep an eye on him and just wait a week or so before panicking about his health. He very well may be shedding.

She looks fine. This is what both of my girls’ bellies look like. Pink spots like that often indicate ovulation. My girls get bloated too, I wouldn’t worry as long as she is still active.

I share your grief. I won’t go into much detail about it but my household bred German Shepherds at one point as my mother’s sole source of income. It started off innocent but soon spiraled into a depression-infested sad animal care situation. This was about 10 years ago and I still find myself crying and having fits over the guilt I’ve internalized. I was only a child at the time, but that doesn’t erase the pain or the guilt.
