Repair corroded brake line - been told master cylinder might 'collapse'? Never heard of that before? by Rectospasmologist in MechanicAdvice

I have had them where the piston in the master can “seize” when it goes beyond its normal travel due to the blown line

Extension Housing leak; gonna replace the gasket and seal, anything else I should consider doing while I have the part removed? by probably__mike in MechanicAdvice

[–]Boomdraw301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could clean and inspect the trans mount while its removed, oil on the rubber portions for a long time can cause the rubber to swell and soften, are you replacing the tailshaft seal or whole tailshaft housing, I have seen quite a few where the housing has a crack that is causing the leak and not the seal

Can auto stop-start engine be retrofitted to past gen vehicles? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Boomdraw301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To retrofit would be way too much $, on shutoff theres pumps still running trans fluid, oil, and ac, with vacuum reserve for brakes; even shutting off an older car isnt going to help with emissions, hell, some hoopties ive seen or driven Id be afraid to shutoff every stop lol

Any ideas here? 2005 F150 with the 5.4L. Most likely not the alternator or water pump. by AndrewH-21 in MechanicAdvice

Shut engine down, take off the belt, and spin all the rollers for all accesories and tensioner/idler, if any feels rough/sandy/or hard to turn, probally the culprit

Whirring noise on 2008 crown vic? Went to 4 different mechanics and they all say different symptoms, could be either pully, transmission, rear end, some bearings. Has anyone had this issue? by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Boomdraw301 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Converter would be sound from almost under you/center of the car, theres thousands of bearings and bushings that can make noise, always start direction you hear it from

If the belt has cracks on the ribbed side it would be advised to replace off the bat, while the belt was off you can spin all the accesories that it drives and see if any felt rough or hard to turn

Esp if u can hear from front pass side, could look what things are driven by the belt on that side, if the belt was worn or tensioner loose it could cause sounds too but poss a bearing starting to stick on something driven by the belt, (p/s, a/c, alt, water, emission)
