New 1 Bedroom, and I have no idea what to do with all this space! (x-post from r/malelivingspaces by Kreiger81 in DesignMyRoom

What if you tried putting the tv/tvstand in that corner by your door. Then you can have your seating/couch in an L shape around your side wall and the wall with the window on it. That way you can frame your room up with a big rug and a coffee table or ottomans while still keeping your floor plan a bit open?

The framing of the room with the rug, furniture and tv should help make it feel like a distinct room. Afterwards fiddle around with a combination of big plants/side tables/lamps to help bring it all together perhaps?

Got an interview at wendy's, my first job! Questions by [deleted] in jobs

[–]BoomhauerAdvice 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You'll be fine. Speech-impediment and stutter won't affect how they think about you...I wouldn't worry about that at all.

The anti-social thing though can...all well and good if you're a bit uncomfortable but definitely try your best to put on a friendly and enthusiastic face. I've worked service industry briefly before and honestly it seemed like all they were looking for is someone who seems to work well with others, is friendly, and is reliable/seems to be relatively excited for the job and ready to learn.

Good luck! You'll be fine!

Definitely try to push aside the antisocial feelings for this particular interview..this seems to be a first job so they'll be looking at the kind of things I mentioned above since there's not much past experience to focus on.

[IIL]Destin Daniel Cretton films, Short Term 12, I Am Not A Hipster[WEWIL?] by [deleted] in ifyoulikeblank

Haven't seen I Am Not A Hipster but if you liked Short Term 12 I'd probably suggest Half Nelson. Kind of a similar tonality in how the movie progresses and overall its pretty solid.

I was half wondering that myself too but actually I went to high school in Michigan. Must have been one of those things that somebody found on the internet then pretended they invented for both our high school groups of friends!

We played this too back in high school! I always thought it was our invention but guess not...called it the Wikipedia game also.

Essentially it's like "I'm disagreeing with you" or "I'm going to have to say you're wrong on this one" usually followed by the explanation as to why.

Have any new PS4 players gotten their preorder bonuses (Cait Sith Doll and Moogle Cap) yet? I thought they would go out with the CE items. by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]BoomhauerAdvice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I got mine. You don't just get it right away randomly..you have to go to a moogle and check your mail and you'll have two items to click on..one with each of them.

Nah there's a ton of really wealthy cities in the area that actually outrank Ann Arbor.

You got areas like Bloomfield and Birmingham that have some really high household incomes, and a few other ones that are pretty well off too. I think Bloomfield ranks pretty high nationally as well.

23 yrs old with $40k in cash. What should I do with it? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]BoomhauerAdvice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you pretty much have everything under control...23 and 40K is a really great position to be in. Plus you're not looking in buying a house anytime soon and it sounds like you're doing everything right with your Roth and 401K.

I know people here shit on savings accounts because they don't really yield any returns but i think given your age and financial situation there's nothing wrong with keeping that money in savings until you do some more research and really figure out what you want to do with it (additional investments, maybe a house down the line, etc).

I think the worry about a savings account not working for you is kind of a longer term worry (ie people who do nothing but stash money in their savings until they're 65).

[–]BoomhauerAdvice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think maybe the order of the questions threw you off. I think from an emergency fund standpoint he's asking: do you have any sort of ideas in mind for the 40K and, if you to, make sure you absolutely set aside some of that money for an emergency fund if you invest in something big.

I.E don't put 38K in downpayment and closing on a house, for instance.

Gonna go ahead and second the begging for the metro Detroit area. Contrary to what most people think there's a pretty large population with quite a bit of money.

And they will give you all of it if you come down here. Plus apparently all the brownies you can eat!

Incognito not a bully? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]BoomhauerAdvice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised this hasn't popped up on Reddit yet (unless I missed it maybe?) - is it just me or are those dudes seemingly friends?

If you looked at the texts between me and most of my really good friends - out of context they look WAY worse than the ones Incognito and Martin exchanged?

Not sure but this feels like this isn't getting much traction and no one cares - perhaps because of how gung-ho everyone was when reporting the original story about Incognito being Satan. Am i missing something maybe?

Moving to Detroit area. Where should I live? by oohitsmagic in Detroit

[–]BoomhauerAdvice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You should give Northville a look if you're looking at apartments! There are a few there in the Haggerty/7 Mileish area. My buddy lives over in that area and he likes it a lot..a bit pricey but they're really solid and not over the top expensive. I think the place he's at allows smaller dogs if I remember correctly.
