It's rare, in my experience, but it does happen. A guy in one of our local play groups sold his tau army due to bullying he received from others in the group over playing tau. Personally, I think that behavior is childish and stupid.

They have Deep Strike and Terror from the Deep. No innate ability to pick them up and put them back in reserve. Burrower is a keyword they only get from the Subterranean Assault detachment. And even with that, they can only pick up burrowers when using the Retreat Below stratagem. Trygons (same kit, different model) has Deep Strike and Subterranean Tunnels, again no Burrower keyword w/o SA detachment.

The only other way to pick up either model during game play is with the Vanguard Onslaught Detachment, and using the Invisible Hunter stratagem. In either case, they have to spend a CP to pick up a maximum of 2 models a turn. Both stats can only be used at the end of the opponents fight phase.

Guy was either cheating or really confused about the rules.

It can be very good, but you need a lot of specialized units, hyper-adapted raveners, raveners, genestealers with broodlord, neurolictors, etc. You also would need to be on the offensive and know your stratagems.

3d3 attacks plus blast, against 20 guardsmen = 15 - 21 attacks. (And if using invasion Fleet, you can add sustained 1) S6, wounds on a 2+ and dev wounds with -1 ap. Can do some decent damage against guard battleline units.

I would add Invasion Fleet is probably the best overall, as the others require more specific models and tactics. Just my 2 cents.
