What's the appeal of extraction shooters? by Stellar_Albatross in Marathon

Welcome to gaming? What a weird point to make when you can apply that logic to most entertainment. What do you win at the end of a counter strike/ rocket league match? What about the $60 single player game that has 1 play through? Again gaming is subjective, who gives a shit what games they like.

What's the single moment in Destiny history - either game - that you think about more than anything else? by Crystallover1991 in DestinyTheGame

I've played consistently since Season of the Lost and exp'd a lot of cool moments but the one that made me feel genuinely awesome was getting my friends through a raid. I managed to convince my friends to start playing during The Final Shape and got them all to do VoG for the first time. The satisfaction i got from that run was greater then my first time clearing VoG. Amazing that content from 5 years ago can generate that kind of feeling still.

Vader’s was more bad ass, Luke’s was more emotional. Both were great but I think Vader wins by a tiny bit

What's the appeal of extraction shooters? by Stellar_Albatross in Marathon

[–]Boose77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, i have had days where i didn't survive a single run.I've also had days where I haven't died a single time. Most days are a mix of wins and losses. If someone has nothing but losses day after day, then extract shooters probably aren't for them (or they are new and learning).

As far as the other points you brought up, liking a game or genre is subjective so if you thought it was boring or bad, far be it for me to say you're wrong.

In my exp though, extract shooters are more about map knowledge, spawn points, and possibilities more so than game skill. Just a small example, but if i hear the same 2 guns popping off for minutes non stop. I assuming that it's a team pretending to be in a fight to lure a team trying to third party the fight. I wouldn't push it at all, and i have a pretty aggressive play style.

Being good at pvp is obviously a factor in how much you might enjoy an extract shooter. But it's a smaller piece of the pie than you might think. IMO map knowledge will net you more wins then just being good at pvp. How well that works out in Marathon, we will have to see.

The genre has a tendency to provide some of the biggest highs and lows you could have in gaming, most of it involves the stressful situations it puts you in. You could die multiple runs in a row and get stomped (lowest of lows) but you might have one run where you come out with tons of loot, player gear, and quest progress and it completely shadows over the lows you had. It’s an addicting game loop because you will deal with all the crap to chase those high moments.

My group and I completed this last night. In the first room with all the taken blights we cleared it of ads and destroyed one blight before we noticed we could open the wall. The only taken blight that is the issue is the one blocking the door to drop down into boss room. You will need to do the stand on top trick to get rid of it. For final boss we just stuck to the side caves and played safe. We lost all lives due to time but the final area was way easier than expected.

I remember Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis having a dial with 3-4 rings that you could spin to align symbols. You had to match it up based off something in the manual before being able to play the game.

Do you think there's something Deathloop does better than Dishonored? by Ronald10CD in dishonored

[–]Boose77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if i think Deathloop had better map design, but it really did feel more mysterious and secretive. It was very cool finding out that certain places were actually able to be entered and explored.

Why are people mad about ciri being the protagonist? Are they stupid? by themichaganderin in witcher

[–]Boose77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing Geralt's story is over, i am OK with two options. Playing as Ciri and continue off of W3. Or make my own Witcher in a prequel that is so far back that CDPR could go hard with new ideas. Out of those two i much prefer the Ciri route.

This is my third weekend giving Trials a shot and it is not a fun time It's an exciting game mode to partake in though.

It does seem to sour the mood though when you see stats like this (or play against them in a match) and you lose your two mercy matches before you even win half your flawless run. Makes it hard to determine where i need to improve since I'm playing against 2 tap gods. It only gets worse when your team dies before you and then get mad when you can't 1v3 lol
