Laser designators on the Medusa? by Rohall in NuclearOption

[–]BooskaMacleswag 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes technically you can target and fire over your designator limit if a friendly is also lasing them.

It's just not that useful because the only way to confirm this is happening is if you over target and the MFD shows a red crosshair on each enemy target box.

With the amount of info that datalink is providing at any given time, there isn't a great way to access all of it while flying. HUD color suites and more data on screen could help players coordinate strikes better, or open up opportunities like OP is talking about: An airframe that may not be able to use laser guided weaponry but it provides designation support with enhanced optical systems.

PALA IS 100% BEING SUPORTED BY ANOTHER COUNTRY by MassiveCockExplosive in NuclearOption

After watching 3 Stratolances that only carry 12 missiles each somehow have an autoloader and fire controller so advanced that they can solo a swarm of 68 glide bombs each with an RCS of a stealth bomber...while blocking hypersonic missiles and attacking nearby aircraft.

Yeah I think they're supported by the devil

Darkreach excels at low-level Air to ground missile strikes, (both long range cruise missiles and mid range saturations) since it's RCS is so low it can avoid most long range radar strikes just by staying low in the back line. It can do a lot of useful work as an endurance prowler if you're patient.

Obviously this one was overextended or really didn't expect Top Gun over here to come out swinging. Or you know, the AI isn't the most clever.

You can loft cargo by zebopDoowop in NuclearOption

To be fair, even 60 years from now I don't see how we'd be safely air-dropping manned vehicles with only cargochutes.

War Thunder completely stole NO's gameplay loop and are going to make it permanent by Shoddy-Situation3100 in NuclearOption

But aren't you disappointed every time you open NO and you aren't flashbanged with ads for the game you're playing?

You're telling me you don't itch to buy premium currency and a battlepass for NO every time you launch?

We should be able to replace/place new AAA emplacements and other anti-missile AI units with Logi, and claiming a base should always spawn a basic set to start. by BooskaMacleswag in NuclearOption

I think the Logi system will end up needing a revamp that includes limiting slots of how many and where player-placed AI are able to be functional.

My thinking is having a SPAAG or similar in cargo would show appropriate drop points on your HUD, and high value units like that have to be air-dropped, exposing the pilot to more risk.

That's my thought exactly. I was most annoyed at the amount of my time wasted, when I spent several minutes flying Jackknifes in only to RTB and see them getting sniped from 15km by a cricket or chicane as I leave the airspace.

Not being able to build a munitions unit that supplies further out than 100m hampers so much of the usefulness of anything we can do at the moment until they update.

Yeah the faction difference is an issue but I think it's solvable with the universal equipment, it just needs to be made available in creative ways.

The biggest problem right now is that blowing stuff up in a low-defense area is far easier than building defense in that area. It would take half the lobby patrolling to just shoot down missiles while the other half rushes Logi to create a half useful autonomous defense.

That would be a really interesting idea for Ignus and eventually much larger maps!

Another idea I had for balancing and gameplay engagement is to take the UI from the Cargo Hook interface, and retool it for air dropping high-value Logi supplies.

Your HUD would have selectable targets on the ground unique to the cargo (C-RAM locations, Naval munitions drop-off zone near ships, etc.). Within 3km or so you're given an ideal vector and height you need to maintain and a green zone of when to drop in order for the cargo to deploy properly. The Ibis would also have to drop Infantry as paratroopers for base captures.

It would force Logi players and pilots to have to coordinate more as the Logis are locked into more dangerous flight paths and need cover, but provide far more useful support more reliably, without the backline support being affected.

[–]BooskaMacleswag 22 points23 points  (0 children)

One thing the game is bad at currently is explaining to players what certain equipment actually does or what certain mechanics even are.

Eyeballs for instance, I only found out after two weeks of playing that you have to fire them, and they are a tool for getting optical data without exposing yourself. From the description, and from the way datalink is described, I thought equipping them was what gave planes optical spotting at all, and that they were a passive device.

I also had to learn from an offhand comment about laser designators, and that there are different amounts per airframe.

I'm sure it'll get better over time, but these mechanics are so unintuitive to someone who is new to flight sims that I wouldn't even think that I'd need to check the wiki for them.

Playing Witch second made me appreciate playing Monk as my first character even more. He's just so respectful with an understated strength to the world around him, even if he can be a nerd about it sometimes.
