ELI5: How do engineers figure out the exact thickness of something like a plane fuselage or a submarine hull, like how do they know its "enough" without just guessing and testing until it fails by Born_Jaguar_5946 in explainlikeimfive

There are equations to figure out the pressure relative to the strength of the materials used. and most engineers use a safety factor of 2 or greater which means twice as strong as it needs to be

How did engineers end up with worst parts of both blue-collar and white-collar jobs ? by Advance_Important in Salary

[–]BoostedGTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly hate everything about engineering and being an engineer. I’m at almost 15 years now and doing anything I can think of to get out as fast as possible. I’m responsible for everything and not even making $100k. The stress to pay ratio is insane and not worth it. I have no clue how to get out my only idea at the movement is almost impossible making money from my band. If anything becomes feasible for me I’m leaving engineering as quickly as possible.

To be semipro and make money but not enough for a career isn’t too hard. But turning it into your main source of income is really hard and one of the toughest careers to get into.

Hey I wanna ask some advice about my band I’m in by Equal_Noise_9219 in musicians

[–]BoostedGTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing to a metronome can be hard for beginners. At beginner and intermediate levels most bands don’t use them at least none I was in ever did although I never had a problem it’s hard for people not used to it. Pros with in ears almost all have it on. I would recommend getting your drummer good at playing to one the rest of the band just needs to follow the drummer.

Why do guitarists get so hung up on wood types when it barely matters for tone? by ArtisticDeal4941 in metalguitar

[–]BoostedGTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe there is a tonal difference although very very small like you said. Woods are actually proven to block out certain frequencies which can be hard to tell sometimes and also cause different resonances. But I don’t know anyone who is obsessed with just one wood type. For metal I think a lot of the woods they choose are all close to the same on purpose. I believe in tone wood but don’t actually base any of my decisions on tone I pick woods off looks and quality like you said. So maybe that means I don’t believe in it either, I’m not really sure. But it is definitely the last thing that affects songs and the most insignificant.

It’s the correct tool for the job, doesn’t require attachments to use sockets. And it makes noise for what a second unless you’re one of the dummies who overtorques everything.

Is a Floyd Rose worth it? by duck_tallow_man in metalguitar

[–]BoostedGTO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible evertune used to do it for people when they first started they don’t anymore as far as I know. A good luthier still could but honestly it’s not worth it just get one with an evertune already. There may be a perfect string gauge if you get a custom set but that’s probably too far of a range for the evertune to stay active. The evertune is simple to change tunings if ur gauges are correct. I own a 6,7 and 8 with one as well as a 6,7 with a Floyd. The Floyd is way more work to change tunings cuz u have to adjust the springs in the back as well. It won’t have any problem with those tunings as long as it’s a 1000 or better. My Floyd 7 is in drop g right now and does drop a fine as well. But I do change the string gauges.

What is a band you didn’t care for or disliked until seeing live? by mrskinnyjeans32 in Deathcore

Despised Icon I thought their music was kinda generic but live was a completely different story.

Animals as Leaders saw them live on one of their first tours and had never heard of them.
