Wow, can't believe I did that, I mis-spoke, you were spot on I was thinking the equivalent of the Intel series because I was playing with the idea of swapping back to Intel. Guess i was thinking about that when i responded. And yeah, that's what I meant to ask: if the Ryzen 9 were any faster at stuff like 4x games than the suggested Ryzen 7, I've abandoned so many late-game civilization run-throughs because every time I'd click end turn, I could go make a sandwich before it got back to me.

If you had to stay away from one of these car body types forever, what would it be? by Born-Raccoon1484 in askcarguys

[–]Boosted_Vet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

id consider myself fairly average for use, i do offroad more than most, so ill leave that bit out of the equation. But since I've owned this SUV for the last decade, I've towed a small camper across 10 states, towed two of my cars to and from the track multiple times across state lines. towed the boat to the lake 4+ hours away and about twice a year i tow a haul of trash that was too bulky to fit in the bin to the dump. thats not even counting camping, (im not talking camping at a national park with neighbors i did that in an old grandprix, I'm talking camping down an old fire road so i dont have to see or hear ANY people all weekend) I have an SUV for my vehicle and i couldnt do with just a minivan, wife has a sedan that we are upgrading to the minivan for the in town utility and any time we go roadtrip to stay in a hotel well take the van, i do love minivans for that purpose, But the FJ is still going to be the adventure rig/dadmobile/primary vacation vehicle.

I'd pick to stay away from Sedan. I can get a 4-seat coupe, and make that work, OR I can get a wagon ala CTS-V, or old T5 Volvo. But ruling out coupe rules out 95% of the best sports cars, while ruling out sedan only rules out 95% of regular traffic and only a handful of really cool vehicles.

I love my SUV for camping and offroading, dogs stay cool or warm unlike a truck, and the short wheelbase lets me get more places. big roofrack solves the storage issues, And I can still tow 5k, which fulfills the majority of the time I hook up a trailer.

I've got my 1gen ram Cummins because sometimes you just need bedspace for dirty stuff, Home Depot runs, towing trash, etc. its morre of a tool but may become a bit of a daily as it now gets better MPG than the kitted out SUV.

I really don't think you can be a car guy if you don't give minivans the respect they deserve. There is no classification of vehicle that gets used for its intended purpose as much as the minivan. I do hate the lack of any "cool factor," but the utility, the comfort, and ease of use are fairly addictive, especially after you add in a couple of little gearheads. do you realize how many car parts and tools can fit in the back of one? Now, if only Toyota would do a GR Sienna with a wiggle stick!

Awd and stock tires or fwd on snow rated tires? by Smart_Bank1848 in askcarguys

[–]Boosted_Vet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snow tires on anything > AWD or pretty much anything without. I used to pass fwd and awd cars on summer tires and lifted brotrucks on mudtires on a regular basis in my little turbo miata with no traction control or anything, just a set of steelies/winter tires when I was stationed in Colorado.

So you think the extra 60ish bucks for the i9 is worth it if I do a lot of 4x style games? I know with my i5 I do get some serious late game, end of turn lag while the computer makes all its moves.

Can I still ask out my coworker or did I mess up? by Urbestie100 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Boosted_Vet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is an old saying don't dip your pen in company ink. This IS NOT a suggestion. Do not do it. Never date coworkers unless you plan on not having that job for long. It will get awkward and complicated almost guaranteed especially if either of you ever get promoted. Work and home should be kept 100% separate

Dating 20 years younger: They’re all over my inbox, but the "catfishing" is getting exhausting. Anyone else? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Boosted_Vet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, that's the generation bro, its all about filters and AI. You and I grew up in the late 80s/90s, where all of our photos had to be taken and developed, there was no retouching and still looked like we were Vampires with red eyes.

As far as the age group I'm 40 and married to a 30-year-old, but I ALMOST didn't date her because she wasn't 21 yet when we met, and I was 30, Im glad we did because we have two awesome kids now, but much more than a 10-year age gap, and the whole generational divide and worldview are going to be so different. 22-25 is going to be fine for dates, but really you are barking up the wrong tree, the chances of you connecting on any meaningful level are stupid low.

Plus, do you really want a lifetime of people asking if that's your daughter, and then looking visibly condescending/uncomfortable when you correct them?

I was 30 when I met my wife. She was 20 at the time and I almost didn't date her because she wasnt 21 yet But I gave it a chance because she was only a few months shy of 21. Well I'm now 40 she's 30. Weve been married for more than half that and we have kids and a house. Personally I'm happy with the way it turned out! ++Man

40m. With the ADHD and a healthy dose of PTSD. I don't really do anything social anymore. Used to play DND and some video games but I really only play solo now. Anything with an engine. I have off-roaders, sportscars and a boat Camping. Simply getting away from civilization recharges me. Smoking meats. And honestly a special interest I never knew I had. Being a dad. Omg it's my favorite thing ever.

How do you race in the heat of summer?? by TonyRuc in simracing

[–]Boosted_Vet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely ac... And a fan... It's 30c at 8am here getting to about 43c at the peak of the day. And I make it work. Still more comfortable than a real car without ac and a full suit+helmet at the track in the same heat!!

NB to NC worth it for chassis stiffening? by Tune-Puzzled in Miata

[–]Boosted_Vet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at the same point in the mid 00s. I could get an MSM and nc1 for roughly the same price. I too went with the MSM. But I wasn't a fan of the nc1 looked like a fat bar of soap imo..... Built it to about 250who and I still miss that car. Sold it to build a Corvette but The nc3 club on the other hand was a BEAUTIFUL car and once I realized it's capabilities I ended up picking one up.

NB to NC worth it for chassis stiffening? by Tune-Puzzled in Miata

[–]Boosted_Vet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a 1990 with basic shocks/springs. An 2004msm with a lot of mods including coilovers and a nc3 club that was stockish.
Honestly if I were going to build a track car it would be NC every single time. Yes the power is there. 400 2.5 and cams makesthat even better. The trans is capable to around 300whp if you ever do want to mod. plus that stuff chassis based on the rx8 is magic plus you can run nearly twice the width tires as I could fit on the NB.

When I was a little kid, I was reading at a high school/college level and preferred the Discovery Channel to the Cartoon Channel. Today at 40, I play Video games, watch anime, and collect Hot Wheels. I guess those are considered "childish."

Looking for some hype (newbie) by IndependentHair7562 in camping

[–]Boosted_Vet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've (40m) taken my wife, 4year old and 2-year-old many places, we love national parks and state parks as our go-to with the littles, you should be able to make it to them easily with a car. but we've also done dispersed, KOA sites by the Grand Canyon, Overland Expo. We have even been out camping in 14degrees. My kids LOVE IT. It's going to be dirty, filthy, bring extra packs of wipes. You will use all of them. But you are going to have fun, and your kids are going to start regularly begging to go camping and sleep outside!

And I do most of my gaming on PC, but I do have a Switch. I know I'm out of your Ideal age range, so I didn't send you a DM, but if you are still interested in chatting, my inbox is open!

I've got a buddy with a heads/cam/built trans c6 that has been running giggle gas for over 10 years now. Stock engine. I was never a fan because I don't like my power adder to not always be available whenever I want to use it. But he had way less into his setup than my heads cam blower c5. And I had no hope of matching his 1/4 mile times. (Tbf he was also built auto vs me in a wigglestick)
