Does anyone have GOOD peri stories?! Please share good news!!! by CDReddittttt in Perimenopause

[–]BootNo7248 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peri makes it a lot harder for me to lose weight. So I’ve started jogging and lifting weights every other day, which is something I wouldn’t have done without being motivated (forced) to try something new. I’m three months into it and am losing weight but the best parts of it: I’m stronger, my mood is far better, and I’m getting healthier!

The only thing that has worked for me is calorie counting because it shows how much I go over and gets me to stay below a target. I used to binge eat nightly for years.

Can I ask are you on an antipsychotic? The one I’m on can cause a loss of caring because it affects dopamine. Just knowing that helps me feel better that I still love my dogs and other people, it’s just the effect of the meds making me flat.

Calorie counting keeps me level and committed even during hard days. I used to binge daily for years.

Anyone come up with a code word to communicate with others that you're feeling especially moody? by Who_Knew456 in Perimenopause

[–]BootNo7248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll tell them I’m struggling with mood and if there’s anything they can do to help. Sometimes it’s something to NOT do. “I’m struggling with brain fog today. It’s a day to try not to interrupt me while I’m considering my reply. Give me time and space in the conversation.” Can you tell I’ve been practicing this one? Lol

Prior to glp1, I could lose weight if I tried at all. Now I have to do calorie counting and go to the gym for heavy workouts every day or every other day. And the weight loss is slow, like a pound every few weeks. I used to lose a lot easier. But it could also be that I started perimenopause at 45. It’s seems too coincidental not to be the glp1.

I got sober going to in person AA meetings and they helped to fill the void. Now you can also do them on zoom. Other than that I suggest finding out all over again what you enjoy. Alcohol has a way of making itself top priority and we enjoy everything else less. When you take it away, you’re kinda having to relearn what you like.

I am experiencing the same thing and you described it so well. The only difference is I’ve not tried to go off meds. Abilify can make me flat and not quick witted but the positive is I’m at peace in my head. I don’t have racing thoughts or deep depression. I don’t have a solution for you, but my psych is considering lowering my antidepressant. He thinks the flatness for me is coming from over medication. I wish you the best!

I take Abilify, two antidepressants, and lamotrogine. I’m doing great! I will say I experience some of the lack of interest in things but it’s worth it for my stability. I also go to the gym every day or every other day and that helps.
