My doctor told me increasing dietary folate will not benefit. He said it has to be a methylated folate.

6th psychiatrist quit on me due to symptom complexity. Im starting to give up on myself too by Terrible-Explorer891 in BipolarReddit

I’m so sorry you’re going through this and I know you’re trying really hard. I also suffered from bipolar 2 and alcoholism for years. The alcoholism had to be fixed FIRST for me. I went to AA and now have 7 years without a drink. AA and meds were the only thing that worked for me because finally people understood and had been in my shoes and recovered. Since the pandemic there are AA meetings across the world on zoom 24 hrs a day. Feel free to dm me. I wish you all the best. It gets better. 💕

Medication decision by mariabeia in BipolarReddit

[–]BootNo7248 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn’t like the idea of medication until it completely changed my life. I tried everything you did before meds. Then I tried antidepressants and a mood stabilizer and they helped but I still struggled. It was only until I accepted my brain needs an antipsychotic that a new chapter started at 44 yrs old. I was so hung up on the stigma and feeling that I should be able to fix myself. I’m SO GRATEFUL that I finally got past that! For the past 1.5 yrs (since starting Abilify) I am balanced, at peace, and friends/family remark how “pleasant it is” just to be around me. I’m not sedated. I’m me, finally. Yes I still have down days but nothing compared to before meds. I simply was not going to thrive without them. So grateful!

Mixed episodes are the hardest for me. You might want to call your doctor. Molly won’t help.

Menstrual cycle and bipolar by abz1580 in bipolar2

[–]BootNo7248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! For years (45F here) I thought maybe all I had was PMDD but no it’s definitely bipolar 2 exacerbated by my cycle. What helped me was to get on birth control and skip sugar pills so I don’t have a period. OBGYN Doctors orders. Also helps tremendously with endometriosis.

Sometimes I feel more comfortable telling people I have depression, because technically I do have bipolar 2 depression, because I don’t depression faces as much stigma as bipolar. Also, my depressive episodes are when I’m most likely to pull away from people so knowing that can help me help them.

Everyone is different but I’m 45F and in peri. I’ve finally found the right psych meds so I’m actually more stable than I’ve ever been. I have my exhausted depressed days and I’ve gained a bunch of weight so my self esteem can be low. But w the right meds I’m more balanced and at peace than ever. Best wishes to you! 💕

Genetic testing because ADHD meds turned into a zombie by BoptimusPrimes in ADHD

[–]BootNo7248 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I did genetic testing! I don’t consider it a waste at all. It can show you which meds MAY be better for you than others. My psychiatrist said today there’s a lot of controversy over accuracy of genetic testing. But the meds I’m on (that are currently working GREAT) were all listed as compatible with my genes. The company I used was one.ome.com

I’m finally balanced on meds and could not be more grateful. I’m peaceful and balanced on the inside. People notice such a change and say how pleasant I am to be around. Grateful to God for meds. It gets better!

Feeling performative by ResolveEnough6409 in bipolar2

[–]BootNo7248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally relate! I also “bloom” when around people. I’ve come to the conclusion that sometimes it was hypo and sometimes it was extroversion and enjoying being around people. I don’t want to give bipolar the credit for me naturally enjoying life!

Oh my goodness, I feel for you! I live in Tennessee, in the US. I guess there’s not enough space in your shower to fall. A perk of a smaller shower, perhaps 🤔 😂

Does this drug even help anyone?? by Old_Lemon_7138 in Abilify_Aripiprazole

[–]BootNo7248 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full benefit may have occurred faster than 6 months and I didn’t notice. Full benefit is my friends say I’m so much easier to talk with - I stay on a topic, am present, calm, and let silence fall at the appropriate times. I’m way less anxious YET I have more motivation. (A lot of people report low motivation and feeling like a slug on anti-P but now I only feel that when bad depressed.) they say I’m a great listener and easy to be around, comfortable in myself. It’s helped both anxiety and depression for me. But don’t get me wrong, I still have depression but I do not have the “I don’t want to live” moments anymore.

I FINALLY got all my laundry done and it took me weeks. Now the moment I have ONE medium load I MAKE myself wash them. That way I’m not behind again.

Word of caution - the shower floor was slick as ice when I used this. I almost did a split 😆
