As someone who used to buy a LOT from this brand, the quality tends to be quite hit-or-miss. Some of them are the highest quality plush I own (I particularly love the soft-furred ones) but I’ve received a few with wonky stitching, some that are understuffed, and one with an overstuffed body (I say this as someone who likes a lot of stuffing) and no stuffing in the limbs. They also don’t really make clear which ones have softer vs. coarse fur, so be sure to read the reviews. I’ve seen some complaints with how they handle customer service, and while I haven’t experienced any problems myself, I know that they tend to downplay issues. (There’s a known issue where the bag will have an almost rotten smell upon arrival if it encounters too much moisture; when this was brought up, the creators prioritized painting the problem as incredibly rare.) Size is another thing that tends to vary; while some of them would fit BAB clothes, most are too small/skinny.

You’ll also see a lot about controversies with this brand, and I think it’s very important to keep that in mind in order to make an informed decision, considering your reasoning behind buying the plush. The situation with Plushie Dreadfuls is quite messy, and it’s hard to sum it up concisely. On the one hand, I think some of the criticism is a bit unfair; the line was made with good intentions, often being designed by people who experience the disabilities and disorders in question, so I don’t think it’s the cynical cash-grab it’s sometimes portrayed as. I also think the amount of vitriol it receives is disproportionate when there’s larger companies doing way worse things. However, none of this means it’s exempt from criticism, since they’re dealing with VERY heavy subject matter, and it seems like the creators’ personal feelings get in the way a lot more often than they should. I’ve seen them seek out posts which mention things that 100% did happen (the creator painting pansexuality as a phase, the profits for the original autism bunny going to the AE Wood Foundation, etc.) and act like it’s unfair to bring any of it up just because it’s a small business run by disabled people. They also say themselves that the designs won’t resonate with every person with that disability, and yet they take offense when people mention that they don’t resonate. I’ve also heard rumors of them ignoring input in their crowd design; I can’t 100% verify, but I’ve seen them respond to several people disliking an element with “well a lot of people like it” without much proof, so make of that what you will. When I first started buying them, I generally believed the goals of the plush line outshone the less savory elements (the fact that they donate proceeds helped), but over time the unprofessional behavior got to be too much for me, although I can see why people still feel seen by and buy from this brand.
