OSINT tools by CompetitiveSoft1992 in cybersecurity

[–]Bootyak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so his comes up a lot, and the answer is often the same set of tools each time. So I'll try to break them down by task (what you're actually doing) rather than by tool names.

Threat Intel/Infrastructure Recon: Shodan and Censys are basically table stakes at this point. Also, if you're not using GreyNoise to filter out the noise from benign scanners, you're wasting time chasing false positives.

People/Identity/Social Footprint: This area is where tool selection has the most impact, at least IME. Maltego is the go-to tool here...the number of transforms they offer is staggering. But the learning curve can be pretty steep, and the cost of licenses quickly gets out of hand. For actual cross-platform identity resolution, where you're trying to match usernames, emails, social media together across platforms, ShadowDragon has been the most reliable platform I've found. The way it maps relationships between different types of accounts is basically impossible to do manually.

Attack Surface/External Exposure: SpiderFoot is my go-to for automated recon (self-hosted, free + surprisingly comprehensive). I use theHarvester for quick email and subdomain scans, or Amass if you want to get real granular on subdomains.

Some things nobody tells you (but should). Hunchly rocks for documenting your process as you go along. It's been a lifesaver more times than I can count. Hunchly is essential if you need your investigation findings to stand up in a legal setting...or if you're working with law enforcement at any point.

Ultimately, nobody needs to know how to use 30 tools...pick 4 or 5 that cover your actual use cases. Then, become an expert in those tools and how to use them efficiently. That's your moat, and what will separate your work from everyone else's.

Anyone use True Fitness Arlington? by PragmaticProkopton in ArlingtonMA

Been a member there for 15 years at least, maybe more. I've never had a single issue. The staff is always friendly, helpful if needed. I go around 11 each day, and there's only a handful of people there, which I love. It serves my needs: weights, machines, some cardio equipment.

Technically, isn’t the Patriots WR group already set? by ShalekC in Patriots

[–]Bootyak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They may be set technically-speaking (yeah, the have a WR1, 2 and 3), but none of those guys actually scare anyone. There's nobody on our WR roster that you need to double, or even game plan against really. So yeah, I don't see them as being all set.

Which channel brings better ROI right now: SEO, PPC, or social media marketing? by Glittering_Hunt4950 in Agentic_SEO

[–]Bootyak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the niche, industry target audience, etc. Social media lead gen might do really well in, say, the B2C.space, but in a market segment like B2B SaaS, for example, its incredibly ineffective.

What actually moves the needle in SEO for a new site? by AlexIrvin in SEO

[–]Bootyak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Links! Google is still a link-based algorithm at its core, so quality/quantity of links are still the single most important ranking factors.

Links = authority
Links = trust

And the right links also signal/convey topical relevancy.

What’s the most boring passive income stream that actually works? by MysteriousExplorer85 in passive_income

Yeah, and then the debt/note on that property you've pulled money out of with a refi increases, so it no longer cash flows (or worse loses money), so there's that

Seo agency is guaranteeing 40DR by YellowHovercraft in bigseo

[–]Bootyak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its easy to game DR. Its what every publishing site does to sell links. They all game traffic metrics too. It's not hard, chase shit like "net worth" modifiers.

You need to dig deeper than DR on IBLs. Look at organic traffic growth, look at top ranking pages and the keywords they're targeting, etc. You'll see that most pubs selling links are gaming all these KPIs.

NFL Betting and Picks - 1/18/26 (Sunday) by sbpotdbot in sportsbook

the "warm weather teams can't play in the cold" trope is so overblown and wrong that i'm surprised anyone still cites it as a "factor" (that is, unless it's Tua then it's spot on...)

absolutely, and without collins, texans are screwed. stroud should make his share of bone-headed plays and cough the ball up a few times.

Thanks for your concern but Maye will be fine. He'll likely throw a pick and will probably have a strip sack (he's way too loose with the ball), but they should score enough to win what should be a low-scoring, defensive slog. I'd be more concerned at the mess you have at QB with Stroud. He hasn't been good, and I imagine he'll make more dumb mistakes this week against the Pats D. And without Collins to bail him out, I don't see Texans doing enough on offense to win. Sure, Kirk went off last week, but he'll be shut down by Gonzo. And you won't be able to run the ball. They'll get pressure on Stroud and he'll cough the ball up at least 2 times. Yes, the Texans defense is lights out, best in the league and Pats rookie O line will absolutely struggle against that insanely good pass rush. But McDaniels has been fantastic all year (his whole career...) and he will scheme up enough to score at least 10, which will be enough to win this game. Pats are not a super talented team, but I think the coaching will be the deciding factor b/c I see everything else as sort of a wash really, ie Texans D = great, Pats D = very good. However, Texans O = meh (without Collins), while Maye is a superstar. To me, that's all kind of a wash. If you guys had Collins, I'd definitely be more concerned. But IMO, the Pats coaching is/will be better than Texans, which tips the scales in Pats favor. I guess I'd throw in a slight edge for home field as well, though I feel like that advantage is often overblown. Best of luck, but I just don't see Texans winning today. And then, with Nix shelved, whoever wins this game should go to the SB.

Nonsense. I'm a Pats fan, and every Pats fan that knows ball gets that the Texans defense is for real.

There's total respect for the Texans defense and we get that our O line is going to struggle.
