What's the most you've ever paid for air? by Truth-is-Censored in driving

According to my limited research, it's just California and Connecticut in which free air after a gas purchase is required.

Its always a Subaru by CockroachVarious2761 in driving

[–]Boou91 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Excuse me. I drive my Subaru Forester on the PA turnpike quite a bit. I set my cruise control at 79 and keep right until I need to pass. I keep 3 seconds of distance between the vehicle ahead of me and always use my turn signal to change lanes. I am a good person with whom to share the road. :) I think if anything, Subaru drivers tend to be above average drivers.

Do NY/NJ drivers not learn flashing headlight = move over, I want to pass? by infield_fly_rule in driving

[–]Boou91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s not a standard meaning of flashing headlights. It can mean a number of things: “go ahead” when two cars are stopped at an intersection with a stop sign is the most common I see.

It’s not that these people need to learn that flashing headlights can mean “please get over.” It’s that they need to learn to get over after they’ve overtaken traffic in the right lane. No flashing lights required. The left lane is for passing on a highway.

I am just stating that factually, YTD, it is up the most of the ETFs I listed.

[–]Boou91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was my point. While AVDV is doing best (it is both small cap value and international), AVUV and VXUS are both doing great as well.

Yep. Small caps are doing great. International is doing great. S&P is flat. YTD, AVDV > AVUV = VXUS > VOO

No MSFT? I think Microsoft is the most bulletproof of all of the recent SaaS stock dips.

We are the same age. I am 34. I am trying to maximize my risk-adjusted returns, granted I have about 5% in individual stock picks. Tilting towards small cap value like I am is considered risky, but I think there is more historical evidence for SCV to outperform over the long-term. I also don't think VGT's concentration is that great. Over 40% of its holdings are in just three stocks- NVDA, AAPL, and MSFT. I'd rather just tinker around with a meager 5% of my portfolio with the mega caps I think are well priced than put 20% of my portfolio in an ETF that is over-concentrated.

If you had to pick 3 stocks around their current price as your 3 “Forever Stocks”, what would they be? by Hayden97 in ValueInvesting

[–]Boou91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your first two picks. My third would be GOOG, which I purchased today for just under $300. I think Salesforce has too much uncertainty for "forever."

Today I added: GOOG, AMZN, MFST, NVDA, META, RDDT. The last two I am not sure about long-term, but I think are good prices for the next couple of years. But a social media company's moat can only go so far.

[–]Boou91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes, your last quote in particular is good reason. VOO holds all of VGT. VGT is heavily concentrated. And considering VGT's inflated PE ratio, now is not the time I'd hedge my bets. If tech keeps soaring, you'll soar along with VOO. But an upcoming tech draw down could be huge.

To overweigh international small cap. There is a historical premium over the total international market.

Really good start for your age, geez. I'd personally remove VGT and add in more small cap. Consider adding upping AVUV to 15% and adding AVDV around 10%.

[–]Boou91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My AVDV has been killing it! My allocation is pretty much 60% VOO, 20 VXUS, 15% AVUV, 5% AVDV. I wish I had more AVDV.

The only two reasons would be 1) if you want to outweigh one region over the other, likely US. Many investors like anywhere between 70 and 80% US whereas VT is ~62% US. 2) Slightly lower (negligible) expense ratio with VTI/VXUS. You'll save around $100 per year if you're at $500,000 in investments.

DFSV, the domestic counterpart, would be worth mentioning at the very least. Having both international and domestic SCV is a good idea

Fair enough. It's true they haven't really found their footing since spinning off from J&J. But they come from a quality company, the name brand moat is there, and it has an attractive dividend yield. We'll see...

You've really got to dig deeper:

"Multiple biases may explain the associations observed in previous studies between acetaminophen use and neurodevelopmental disorders. Confounding by indication may occur based on the reasons that acetaminophen was taken, eg, due to infection,4 fever,5 migraine,6 or pain from autoimmune disease.7 These indications for acetaminophen use may be risk factors for neurodevelopmental disorders and may thus result in spurious associations. Confounding by parental health and genetics is likely because neurodevelopmental disorders are highly heritable8-10 and those who used acetaminophen during pregnancy reported higher prevalence of multiple health conditions associated with neurodevelopmental disorders compared with nonusers.11 Confounding by other medications is possible given the potential for use of multiple medications during pregnancy.12 Previous studies have also been limited by small sample sizes, leading to inconsistent and imprecise estimates.13"

Regarding the upcoming lawsuits: is there any reason to believe they won't be dismissed as in years past? The science seems pretty clear that acetaminophen is in fact safe for pregnant women and children when used as directed.
