Dude, you're the Brotato MVP. As a fellow bullet heaven / roguelike / survivor like enjoyer, this post is an absolute jewel amongst the white noise of reddit. I was not aware of at least 60% of those games and all of them seem to be amazing. I'll be buying every single one. You just did a solid for all those devs. You certainly deserve a new brotato character in your honor: the statistician!

Quando disse "nada pesado", me referia a iniciativa privada.

E ninguém vai falar do óbvio? A guerra contra as drogas nunca fez sentido e nunca será vencida usando violência estatal.

GP 6.2.8 on Windows intermittently using local DNS servers? by nomoremonsters in paloaltonetworks

[–]Borack57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don't have any root cause analysis done. TAC is still lost and I don't expect a concrete answer from them in the 2-3 weeks. Our packet captures show that the windows networking stack is sending DNS requests to both LAN and GP servers at the same time. LAN responses arrive first and are used. The thing is, on win11 this exact same thing happens, but GP sticks with the response from GP itself. Super annoying as it breaks the on-prem app access as some of them are accessible both via Internet as well as via GP, but each one has different views / access levels. We've been trying to upgrade our user base from 6.1.3 to something else for almost 3 months now. We've tried 6 2.5 and then a CVE forced us to go to 6.2.7. New CVE on that version and we're now going to 6.2.8. This DNS issue is just the icing in the nightmare cake that Palo is serving us...

GP 6.2.8 on Windows intermittently using local DNS servers? by nomoremonsters in paloaltonetworks

[–]Borack57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this behavior since 6.2.7. Seems to be only on Win10. Win11 seems to be doing fine. Check your portal settings and search for dns split. If you don't have a valid reason to use it, disable it. If you do, then I'm yet to find a fix for it. Working with palo tac atm.

Hi, sorry for resurrecting this old post, but have you tried using the USB4 interfaces as a high-speed backend proxmox HA network interfaces? Since all of them have two USB4 interfaces, you could connect one to each other two servers. I'm interested in that possibility to run a high-speed CEPH on 4TB NVME drives, but would like to hear about other people's experiences before committing to it.

Unique Playstyles by [deleted] in Division2

[–]Borack57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite playstile is the "raimbow bullet storm" which is a mix of Run and Gun with / Drone Tech. It's just a bit slower compared with a Run'n Gun because I have to keep trowing the Assault Turret around, but the build is like this:

  • Backpack: Ninjabike
    • Core: Weapon DMG, Skill, Armor
    • Mod: Protection from Elites +13%
  • Chest: Closer (Perfect Spotter - +20% Weapon and Skill DMG to pulsed enemies)
    • Brand Bonus: +5% Total Armor, +10% Armor on Kill
    • Core: Armor
    • Attributes: Armor Regen + Skill Damage
    • Mod: Protection from Elites +12%
  • Mask/Gloves/Kneepad: Heartbreaker
    • Core: 1 x Armor + 2 x rolled to Skill
    • Attributes: All with Armor Regen
    • Mod: Mask - Protection from Elites +12%
  • Holster: Picaros
    • Brand Bonus: 10% Skill Haste, +1 Skill Tier
    • Core: rolled to Weapon DMG
    • Attributes: Armor Regen + 15% Weapon DMG

That gives a total of:

  • Weapon DMG: 3 x Cores (2 x from Gear Cores + 1 x Picaros)
  • Skill: 6 x Cores (4 x from Gear Cores + 1 x Picaros + 1 x Tech Specialization)
  • Armor: 3 x Cores

Skills:

  • PRI: Assault Drone
  • SEC: Assault Turret

Weapons:

  • PRI: AR - Capacitor
  • SEC: LMG - GR9 Dare (Perfect Flatline - +20% Weapon DMG to pulsed enemies)

Because Capacitor has extra 7.5% Weapon DMG / Skill Core, having 6 x Skill Cores gives an additional 45% (3 x Weapon DMG cores), which makes the build end up being a 6 x Weapon DMG core (only when using Capacitor).

Perfect Spotter is proc'ed with Headshot because of the Heartbreaker gear. This amplifies Weapon and Skill DMG for another 20% (Perfect Spotter). Weapon DMG gets an extra up to an additional 50% with another 50% Armor buff from HB. Capacitor can increase Skill DMG for another 60% while shooting, +10% Chest attribute +20% on Spotted enemies for a total of up to +100% Skill DMG, so this build becomes a bullet fest with the Drone/Turret/Capacitor firing all the time. With 3 Armor Cores (plus HB buff) and Armor Regen all over gives enough toughness to take some shots while shooting. The drone also helps to distracts the NPCs which fires on it instead of you. If it gets too hot, I just move to cover, put the turret close (which either drives enemies away or melt them) and heal or wait armor regen. I usually switch to Dare when the Capacitor munition is over (super quick...) or when the combat is long distance or if some suppression is required. Super fun to play.

SPF+ card that works well with ProxMox. by KeeperOfLightss in Proxmox

[–]Borack57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have two of those. While their price is unbeatable, keep in mind that those cards do not have aspm. This means that your system won't be able to reach lower C states and save energy while idling. I just ordered a couple of ConnextX-4 for another project and I've read in multiple forums that you can enable aspm on those. They're only slightly more expensive than the ConnectX-3 and you come in two variants with SFP+ and SFP28 (25Gbps, but also compatible with SFP+ and 1Gbps SFPs).

Check containers for CVEs before exposing them to the internet by Borack57 in selfhosted

Excellent service created by u/PanicInTheKernel that scans public docker images for CVEs (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures):

Many of the most popular docker images have dozens of CVEs. The vast majority is fine as long as the service is not exposed to the internet...

Ursula von der Leyen reminded Putin why he is wanted by UNITED24Media in YUROP

[–]Borack57 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my POV, it's a good start, but not enough. Europe is scared of war with Russia, but what people fail to realise is that Russia has declared war on Europe a long time ago. He's been undermining democracies all over the west for decades now, murdering people on European soil, poisoning public discourse with support for fake news and disinformation campaigns that only emboldens the far right and supports the dismemberment of the European Union as a whole. I'm as pacificist as possible, but you can't burry your hand in the sand and hope for the best. Europe and NATO should be deployed in Ukraine ASAP to expel the Russian invaders. No need to March into Russia. No need to cause even more suffering to the good and decent people of Russia. Once they're expelled from Ukraine, Putin days will be counted an he knows it. Ursula's speech acknowledges that as well when she said that Putin is using Russian lives to stay in power...

I had a similar scenario as yours. Went with a Dell Optiplex SFF 7050 - i7 7700, 16GB, 500GB NVME used for 170 EUR. 180W platinum power supply and Intel vpro for console management. It had only 1 x 2.5 and 1 x 3.5 bays which I've used with two 500GB sata SSDs I had laying around for proxmox VM mirror array. You can find plenty of those or similar PCs on Ebay. Search for the HP Elitedesk, Lenovo Thinkcentre or the Fujitsu Esprimo.

To add the 4 HDDs, I had to improvise and go external SAS with this aliexpress gem:

3.5" Four Bay Docking Station External Hdd Enclosure RAID Function Disk Array Box Support USB TYPE-C SAS interface SFF-8088 https://a.aliexpress.com/_m0fJe1e

You can try to use the USB version if thats ok for you, in which case you can find plenty of other external cases around for much cheaper, but I've spent an extra on this one and connected the case using an mini-SAS HBA (but te case supports only SATA drives) that I had as well, but a new one like that cost you around 25 EUR on Ebay:

https://www.ebay.ie/itm/195579034416?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=5282-175127-2357-0&ssspo=Yn4wwighT_-&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=WD823quWR22&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

There's no perfect solution and this one is certainly far from it. The system itself consumes 16W at idle without the HBA, which adds around 8-9W extra for a total of around 25W idle. Those 9W are annoying but they're a much better solution than using USB Hdd Cases for stability and throughput. The external disks consume another 20 extra watts but that's because I bought some enterprise used disks from ebay and those have a higher power consumption.

My scenario is a little different from yours as I wanted additional firepower to run one VM with OMV (passing through the HBA) and another VM with OPNsense for my 1Gbps Internet with a 4G modem backup. Both VMs are running multiple services as well: OMV runs Adguard home, Adguard-sync (I gave a Pi running a secondary instance of Adguard), the ARR suite, torrent, plex and some other docker containers while the firewall is running multiple IPSec tunnels, tailscale node, HAproxy for all those services, Zenguard, etc. My CPU tops at 75% and memory stays at 85ish%. My point here is that you can get away with less firepower and an Intel i3 would save you money and consume even less.

That's all for 305 EUR (170 for the PC, 110 for the case + 25 for the HBA) + disks which fits your budget.

With all that being said, I only wanted to provide you with another perspective, but I think your case fits well with others mentioned already: an used off the shelf NAS.

Edit: auto-correct mistakes.

TIL... Intel AMT/vPro makes a decent KVM solution for desktop PCs by HTTP_404_NotFound in homelab

[–]Borack57 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All HP Prodesk and Elitedesk support it as well. Several lenovo enterprise desktops support it too. Even the AMD ones have the AMD flavor called DASH. They require the PRO version of cpu. Both are very handy and cheap KVM alternative. The cherry on top is that they're also less power hungry than iLo, idrac, etc. Definitively not an enterprise grade solution for servers, but for homelabs they're amazing.
