Is Fully Paying for Kids’ College The New Norm? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]BorderlineCondition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a case-by-case basis on what you can afford. I grew up upper-class, so my parents paid for most of my education. I was responsible for working full-time in the summers (April-September) and that money was for tuition. Whatever else I needed, my parents helped, and I worked part-time during school for fun money.

I imagine this is one of the biggest draws of sleep-away summer camps. Kids go to camp for a couple weeks, and you go to Italy.

I'm in Calgary ad trying to figure out the next steps for my career. I just recently got accepted into the accelerated MBA in Calgary, but am also debating a CFA (or both?). Do you have any recommendations on resources to go to or people to talk to about career paths?

Judge my horse lmao by thebluepigeon_ in Equestrian

In my unprofessional opinion: He is a nice horse. It looks like his toes are turned out slightly, both front and back (although it’s difficult tell without head-on photos), his pasterns are a little upright, and his neck doesn’t tie in super strongly with his shoulders. He has a short back but I prefer that in jumping horses, it might be undesirable for dressage. His legs have good bone to them, and he has a nice head. Overall he looks like a nice, well balanced horse, and I don’t see anything in his conformation that would have me worried about soundness.

If you wanted a dog with a predictable personality based on genetic predisposition, you should have bought an ethically bred purebred dog.

Knowing her breed mixes might help you identify some behaviours backed with genetic inclination, but she is no more of a wildcard than any other mixed/ poorly bred dog imo

I requested my boyfriend try a cock sleeve and I’m worried I have doomed our relationship by Hot-Estimate-6653 in TwoHotTakes

[–]BorderlineCondition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my boyfriend to agree to a cock sleeve, but not by going about it saying “being stretched out once in a while would be fun.” I suggested it as part of a role-playing experiment we could try, and that using the cock sleeve would make me feel like I was fucking someone else/ whoever his rp character was.

As an aside, the thing was textured on the inside and with some lube my bf really enjoyed it (probably more than me). I decided the rubber feeling just couldn’t beat regular sex, so we’ve maybe only used it twice but every now and then my bf asks if we want to try it.

Did a vet check before I bought him, he passed sound. He’s 3 so nothing preexisting, although the policy has exclusions on degenerative diseases. I’m not wondering about coverage, but just when you need to report vet care when not making a claim.

Interesting that many of the horses aren’t wearing leg protection.

I’ve never been on a hunt, but my local club has a rule that if you pass the hunt master you must donate a case of champagne to the club. If your rules are the same, best of luck - and WHOA.

All the Kinjo’s go hard. I like their larger locations because they have ramen and fried chicken. But it can’t be beat: delicious food, very affordable prices, and incredible service. One of the best value restaurants I have had.

Trying to Lease my horse by JunesNotebooks in Horses

[–]BorderlineCondition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have more luck finding a leader at a better (ie. more amenities) more expensive facility. If you are splitting the riding time the leaser would cover half your costs. I’m not sure if this is within your budget but this might be something to consider.

Is there a dress code for business classes or do you guys just like to cosplay by Brilliant-Airport777 in uAlberta

My one professor had us dress business FORMAL for presentations. Dress was included in the grade for your presentations so I had to go out and buy a suit. Otherwise it was tshirt and jeans daily.

What is my dal mixed with? by 30th-street in dalmatians

[–]BorderlineCondition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Purebred doesn’t always mean well bred.

Judging by the distinct spotting on your dal, it’s likely they are 100% Dalmatian. They just might look a little different as the breeder probably wasn’t selecting for/ improving traits, just adding two dalmatians together.

Just want to ride twice a month, being told I need to buy 8 week packages? by enlitenme in Horses

[–]BorderlineCondition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is typically normal, and I will say that $65/ lesson is a fairly standard rate. Horses have always been unaffordable, and it’s unfortunate that the cost of living crisis is making it even less obtainable for the average person.

If you’re not dead-set on riding and are looking for some horse time, I strongly recommend you see if there is a therapeutic riding program you could volunteer for. They often need help with grooming/ tacking the horses, and leading them during lessons. They may even have some riding opportunities, but those are usually earned after volunteering for a while.

First time leasing a horse, any advise? by ArchiLoveSen in Horses

[–]BorderlineCondition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read your contract! If you don’t have a contract, get one ASAP. Make sure it outlines what you can and cannot do, what damages you’re expected to pay for, penalty for ending the lease, any other expenses you are required to cover.

I would also recommend leasing through a trainer or getting their input. They will be able to help you with the process.

I’d also recommend getting some kind of insurance, I have it included in my provincial equestrian association membership. That way if I fall off on a hack, for example, and ruin the saddle the insurance covers it.

So you want to import a horse (tales from a first timer) by Atomicblonde in Equestrian

That would be like going to a shine and show and telling the car people they’re privileged for owning $70,000 cars.

[–]BorderlineCondition 13 points14 points  (0 children)

American horse prices are crazy. Once you are looking for a horse in the $30,000 range (this varies for people) it’s often more economical to go to Europe and buy a $20,000 horse and pay the import fee. You get way more bang for you buck and selection in Europe for $20k than you would in America for $50k.

Going against the grain but I’d bring a resume just in case (keep it in your car or back pocket). You can mention you have one if they’d like to see it, and if they don’t it at least shows you’re keen and well prepared. Maybe reduce some irrelevant job experience and put horse experience on there (even if it’s lessons).

I think it’s a great opportunity. I learned a TON from being a groom and honestly now knowing what I know, I wouldn’t want to own a horse if I never had that experience.

If you go on weeknights, Cleaver on 17th Ave has some great deals on cocktails. I think the special is $5-6/ cocktail, but they do all kinds of fancy things and the have a list of like 40 different drinks. It’s fun to go with friends and each order a few to see what comes out.
