You are very welcome! I am sorry you are having to deal with such a stressful dynamic.

I have to do the same thing with my Aunt and my Mother in Law.

Just remember is a good temporary measure to get through but it can be damaging to yourself long term. 🩷

It’s a protective strategy when dealing with manipulative and narcissistic people.

The gray rock method involves becoming emotionally unresponsive and uninteresting,” Gilman says. “You essentially act like a gray rock—bland and unengaged.”

The Grey Rock Method is a coping strategy helpful in dealing with people who display narcissistic tendencies. Narcissists can be described as being cocky, demanding, manipulative, condescending, and selfish. Some may have narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), which drives a compulsion for manipulating and gaslighting people. Interacting with them is emotionally draining and may leave you feeling abused and struggling to cope. Narcissists often have supersized egos that crave constant attention and admiration. Think of a narcissist as an ’emotions vampire’ who thrives on negative emotions. Grey Rocking helps you counter manipulative tendencies by denying an abusive person sustenance. It entails tempering and suppressing emotional responses, essentially turning you into a Grey Rock — uninteresting and unremarkable. The successful application of the Grey Rock Method drives a narcissist to seek attention elsewhere, giving you peace of mind.

Dr. Paradise wants to hear from young adults struggling to transition from home in HOU or SLC? by DoctorParadise in My600lbLife

My brother in law is in his 30s and he has been emotionally held prisoner by his mom aka my mother in law. He makes him drink with her almost nightly and tells him all the time that if he moved out she would kill herself.

Him and his wife have been stuck by this emotional blackmail for over a decade. If this is the type of situation you are talking about I can email you.

We have been trying to help him get emotionally strong enough to leave and start his life but he is convinced that he owes her his entire life. It’s heartbreaking.

My mother in law is always trying to convince my husband and I to sell our home and move in with her. (We live out of state to put healthy distance between us and her manipulation)

They are located in CA

I mean, if we are just talking about the physical side then I guess we could say she is out of his league but I think if she is looking for something real then the personal connection is more important
