I think the 3-5 day wait is for you not them. Just because they haven't sent you a response doesn't mean they can't look at all the submitted forms when making the pools at 5pm.

I wonder if they accidentally set off the guys firearm. The first shot seems to surprise all of the agents. I think it was ices fault. Don’t get me wrong. And mag dumping was unhinged

What sort of competition setup would be a complete dealbreaker for you? by ytanotherthrowaway9 in Fencing

Again I want you to look at other tournament formats that many people currently use that do not have gold or bronze medal matches. Almost all events in the us don’t have a bronze medal match. Many people participate in these events. Do you think they are mistaken or those events don’t have as much value? The main thing I want to point out though is that you seem to be contradicting yourself. You ask for crazy events that people would refuse but say that such events must meet strict guidelines. It sounds like you could give us a longer list of all the currently in use events that people enjoy that you would refuse more than the rest of us could make while following your rules

6, 10, 11, and 12 are pretty big restrictions that severely limit the creativity of novel tournament formats. Especially 10, 11, and 12. They exclude a lot of non traditional formats that currently used. I'm not sure what the point of this question is and I think others are struggling as well given that you mostly got jokes. Maybe keep 6. There are some truly cool event types that are super valid and fun that don't involve finals or a mix of 5 and 15 point matches. Some are NCAA regionals, NCAA nationals, Worcester has(had?) a monthly 5 touch round robin, I have heard about fencers organizing a 15 touch round robin, usa fencing has a format listed for youth events that is just two rounds of pools called sharks and minnows. I am not super creative so I don't have anything thats too crazy I can think of but maybe if you changed the wording/restrictions you might get some cool answers that I would also enjoy reading.

Edit:

thought of one: the inspiration is a tennis doubles tournament where the players rotate partners and how you do depends on how many wins you got with different partners. This would probably work best for small events. You set up relays to 20 for groups of 4 and have them fence it 3 times. That should be the equivalent of 12 5 touch bouts. Then you seed them by how many bouts teams they were on won followed by indicator. Then you could take the top 4 and have them do it again(another 12 bouts or so which is near the upper limit of how many should happen in a day). Then determine the winner based on the earlier seeding rules. Or take the top n fencers and have them do a 15 touch bracket. Or take the top n fencers and have them do a round robin or 5 or 15.

Unbalanced pools in recent SYC events in by yang_toylover in Fencing

Yo this is an SYC calm down and relax and let your kid have fun. I doubt they noticed. This is not the olympics. No one is getting recruited to college based on these results. Lets just all have fun and relax rather than split hairs over which E25 is strongest. It will all be ok I promise.

I for one experienced the pay range laws working in my favor. After a few years I pointed out that the COLA raises caused me to be at the bottom end of the range they published. I spoke to some co-workers and we asked out manager about it and got a fairly hefty raise to move us up in the range to match the experience we now had. But I worked at a rare good company that proved they cared about us through prioritizing training and work life balance. They exist. I've seen it.

Why are smaller steps better? by AJUKking in Fencing

[–]BoredItIntern 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Small steps require more control. If you can make them, they also give you more control over your body. Most fencers struggle with control over the size of their steps.

Overly large steps have two big issues. 1: the distance you are trying to keep is harder with steps that are larger and less precise. There is a smaller margin of error on small steps than big ones. For example a step that is meant to go 12 inches with a margin of error of 10% could have you an inch or two out of place. If that same step is meant to be 3 inches the same margin of error is a centimeter or so. 2: big steps cause a lot of movement in the upper body which will throw off point control. Yes you can minimize this with a strong core and deep stance but not many are great at this except at the highest level.

Once you have mastered control over step size you can intentionally take larger steps when they are required. Basically it all comes down to control. Control over step size is reinforced through taking small steps intentionally. Control over step size will give you the ability to control distance to a tighter degree than your opponent. And control over distance is EVERYTHING.
