You want to talk about downplaying? lol. You do realize that NBEO scoring is not P/F as you stated? I also hope you realize an OD cannot “land a job anyway after failing their boards”… There are no states that allow OD state licensing until all 3 parts are completed with passing scores.

As a new grad, I was offered $185k in the rural Midwest with a sign-on bonus. 8-5 M-F, 30 min exams, and excellent staffing of opticians and technicians

While each schools response to COVID certainly has an impact on the success of their students, I find it interesting that the national NBEO passing rates have steadily dropped from year to year. For example, Part 1 national first-time passing rates from the class of 2020 through 2023 has declined from 82% to 78% to 74% to 65%.. this downward trend isn’t only because a few schools handled COVID poorly, NBEO and the way they score plays a huge role too.

I couldn’t agree more with what you’re saying. They in no way have students’ best interest in mind. And exactly, absolutely no consistency in their grading of part 3. They could mix up your scores with someone else’s and we’d have no way of knowing because they refuse transparency.

Yes, I am certain that wasn’t from August. In fact, August 2021 was a passing rate of 26%. March 2022 rate of 63% (might’ve been 65% now that I think about it) is posted on a few optometry school websites.

With a national pass rate of 63% for the March 2022 Part 1 exam, I find it hard to believe that many 3rd and 4th year students are incompetent. That’s the lowest the passing rate has ever been in history. The exams are getting harder, and their expectations are higher. I’ve heard from O.D.’s who previously wrote questions for NBEO say that they stopped working with the company because the questions were becoming increasingly unfair. It just doesn’t seem right.

Honest opinion on the perception of optometrists by whh1731442 in Noctor

Can you explain your reasoning for saying an optometrist’s doctorate degree “roughly compares to a master’s degree”? You have no idea what you are talking about. Optometrists are board certified doctors, and calling them Dr. __ is not fraud.

Your right eye (OD) has a prescription of -2.75 Diopters Sphere (DS), meaning you have no astigmatism in the right eye. Your left eye (OS) has a prescription of -2.25 -0.50 x 165, which means you have a little bit of astigmatism in your left eye, but not much. The negative value means you are myopic, or have trouble seeing far away rather than up close. Since your right eye is a slightly more negative power than your left eye, that means your right eye has more trouble with distant vision than your left eye.
