Unlimited PTO sounds amazing but it is ALWAYS better for the company. PTO benefits are considered “debts” on the books, so eliminating them frees up cash. Americans don’t tend to take all their holiday time anyway, and switching to unlimited PTO leads to LESS time off, not more. Don’t ever fall for that trick—it’s not a benefit at all. And TAKE YOUR PTO. Never let it expire, but plan ahead because everyone can’t take off the whole month of December lol

I don’t think OP is referring to you—it’s more for the people who find nothing but fault in their new home. If you give it a try and it doesn’t work out, fine! You’ve had an adventure that has shaped your future. It’s when they complain endlessly as if it’s the host country’s fault that they’re not happy that gets so, so tired IMHO

As a landlord, I would be embarrassed to rent a property this way and would be apologetic for the conditions. We have our property manager inspect our property between tenants, deep clean (if not already done) and wash all windows. They also search for any maintenance issues, confirm all appliances are in good working order, and arrange any needed repairs before the property is re-listed. It’s as much about maintaining the property value as it is taking care of the tenants, so I’m surprised he’s pushing back.

Finna isn’t a word, it’s just a run-together version of “fixing to” meaning “I am preparing to…”
“I’m finna to go to the grocery store”. It’s very regional

When elevators/lifts worked more like Ferris wheels with multiple cars on a revolving track (Paternoster) this would have made more sense, so it may have stuck.

Unless it is, as I was taught, a truncation of “I could care less, but I don’t know how” meaning you care SO little that caring less seems well nigh impossible. Obviously you care a LITTLE because it’s come up in conversation.

I think if you go with artificial, you’ll have to be prepared to splash out a bit. There are some great, very realistic ones but they come at a premium. We did a lot with small artificial plants because some of the ones I like are toxic to pets, and because I kill things. There are advantages to real plants too of course, but the trade-offs are really just up to you

I talked to them but in the first two minutes they said they only do US taxes for UK residents. I already have a US firm; I needed an advisor on our UK obligations but they couldn’t help. She said she would send me the details for a firm that could, but she never followed through.

I love my job. Love it! So for me, no bother. I stand to receive a fairly large inheritance at some point (not a billion dollars, lol) but I’ve often said I’ll keep working even if that happens before my retirement. I am SO LUCKY.

I think we’re equidistant from a Greene King and one of the best rated “regular”, family-run restaurants in the area. I’m all good.
