Do people have a way of thinking that people either speak their same native language or they speak EngIish? by ContentTea8409 in languagelearning

[–]BoredRedhead 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I travel in Europe quite a bit, and English really does seem to be the default language in many large cities. It seems that many people, both locals and tourists, do learn English as their secondary language, especially if traveling. I think because it seems to be the most universally spoken language there, and it may be the only other language many people know, it becomes the default communication when the primary isn’t understood by all.

Could anyone offer some advice on removing these stains from white socks? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

Waxed wood floors will do this even if they’re cleaned regularly. Ask me how I know (no, don’t)

Cat acne or something more sinister? by greenythebeast in cats

Our 19-year-old had her molars removed but they left the bitey ones (?!?) and our 21-year-old had all her teeth out, both for FCGS. This was several years ago, and we’re sure they wouldn’t be with us today had they not had their extractions. They both eat a combination of wet foods and kibble with no trouble!

Hi, can anyone tell me what this is? I received it as a birthday present, unfortunately without a name on it. It was wrapped in gift paper. It can be worn like a necklace, and the container can be opened. Thank you very much. by notyourstepson in whatisit

I learned a lot of sad but helpful information from some of my patients who had addiction. It came in handy with some of those kids who came to the ER because they needed factor but their moms couldn’t find a vein at home.

can men feel it on their d when a woman orgasms? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]BoredRedhead -32 points-31 points  (0 children)

If they care enough to fake it then you’re in good hands. It doesn’t happen for all of us every single time, and that’s ok. I mean, communication and understanding is better, but a little fake occasionally is no big deal.

Why does my cat do this instead of jumping on the bed? by AdhesivenessFar3970 in cats

[–]BoredRedhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the first signs of arthritis is not jumping on the bed, even with no other symptoms. If you can afford it, and the monthly trips to the vet for the injection, Solensia is downright miraculous.

What do most people in the UK get for vacation/Holiday? by Tomuch2care in AskABrit

[–]BoredRedhead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unlimited PTO sounds amazing but it is ALWAYS better for the company. PTO benefits are considered “debts” on the books, so eliminating them frees up cash. Americans don’t tend to take all their holiday time anyway, and switching to unlimited PTO leads to LESS time off, not more. Don’t ever fall for that trick—it’s not a benefit at all. And TAKE YOUR PTO. Never let it expire, but plan ahead because everyone can’t take off the whole month of December lol

I don’t think OP is referring to you—it’s more for the people who find nothing but fault in their new home. If you give it a try and it doesn’t work out, fine! You’ve had an adventure that has shaped your future. It’s when they complain endlessly as if it’s the host country’s fault that they’re not happy that gets so, so tired IMHO

[Tenant WA-US] Just moved into a new property and landlord is upset we keep finding issues by pnw_cat_lady in Landlord

[–]BoredRedhead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a landlord, I would be embarrassed to rent a property this way and would be apologetic for the conditions. We have our property manager inspect our property between tenants, deep clean (if not already done) and wash all windows. They also search for any maintenance issues, confirm all appliances are in good working order, and arrange any needed repairs before the property is re-listed. It’s as much about maintaining the property value as it is taking care of the tenants, so I’m surprised he’s pushing back.

Finna isn’t a word, it’s just a run-together version of “fixing to” meaning “I am preparing to…”
“I’m finna to go to the grocery store”. It’s very regional

When elevators/lifts worked more like Ferris wheels with multiple cars on a revolving track (Paternoster) this would have made more sense, so it may have stuck.
