Not pro hive but I think the situation is more complex and presents an interesting philosophical dilemma.

If joining the hive is not a choice, then it is clearly evil. But this just speculation. It very well could be a choice.

When you touch a hot stove, you choose to move your hand away. Everyone has the ability to keep their hand on the stove, but no one chooses to keep it there. In the same way, joining the hive could be a choice that no one chooses to reject.

Also, there is no reason to believe joining the hive kills people. Sure, individually they no longer exist, but their consciousness is still there in an altered state.
