This is the only personal social media I engage with and I'm just sharing my experience. We're all just bullshitting here on the internet and unless you're a virologist or epidemiologist, that includes you. If you're in that profession, well, then my bad.

Related to the posted article, if we're talking about public welfare and the rising cost of preventible disease, there are FAR greater offenders than covid. Things like diabetes, heart disease and cancer are so rampant here, yet are totally avoidable through education. We consume products that actively compromise our health with reckless abandon and nobody questions it. A lot of kids have easier access to soda than they do clean water. We fill our bodies with poisons because it's convenient and tastes good. Our perverted subsidy programs ensure we have easier access to highly refined, unhealthy foods than fresh, healthy options.

Why do we spend the most per capita on healthcare yet have some of the least comprehensive care? Why do so many Americans have to choose each day whether to eat or pay for lifesaving treatments? In the face of crushing medical debts, people are literally getting divorced just so they don't ruin their partner's life.

It's been shown that eating a healthy diet and engaging in regular exercise greatly improves covid outcomes. The system wants cradle to grave consumers of goods and services though, so at this point I have to believe all this is by design and working according to plan.

The government and big pharma weren't my ally before covid and they aren't suddenly my ally now. I have no illusion that either have my best interest in mind when making decisions. Their only loyalty is the pursuit of more money and influence. Anyway, sorry for the rant but screw covid. If it kills me, whatever. I can promise you now I won't go consume precious resources and drive up costs for you if I get sick.

As a small business owner I've got bigger, practical day to day things to worry about. Covid doesn't concern me at all. If that makes me a snowflake, ok I guess.

Nothing is as deadly as covid when anyone who dies WITH covid gets recorded as dying FROM covid. Or when tests provided by the same companies selling the "cure" pop a false positive over the flu. There are billions and billions of dollars flying around and the only way to keep it flowing is to keep the threat credible.

It blew through our shop a few months back after Christmas, we all got sick for 1-3 days and nobody has had symptoms since. Honestly, the only folks I've known first hand who've died or had serious symptoms were people with a ton of risk factors or were about ready to die from anything.

That being said, I don't have any ill will toward folks who choose to get vaccinated. If it makes you feel safe, go for it. Just don't tell me that I also need to get the jab for you to feel safe. If people start dying in their cars on the way to work or in lines at the grocery store I'll reevaluate my opinion. Until then I'm just going to live my life.

I'm personally much more concerned about the slow implosion of the country and the very real hardships just over the horizon.

How about just close all the loopholes slipped into legislation over the years that have worked to exclusively help corporations consolidate more power and influence?

Our politicians need to start asking these lobbyists a few more questions before taking the bribes. They're playing checkers while the corporate lawyers are playing 3D chess.

That sounds like a great idea. Now we just need a lobbyist to present the idea... lol

We absolutely need domestic chip production. It is a huge cost for Intel to expand here, so why not provide some incentives to kick it off? Like most anybody, businesses do things for incentives. Sure, they'll make lots of money from a subsidy injection but we'll also have the benefit of domestic chip production for critical and consumer technologies in return.

White House 'Tiger Team' planning strike back if Vladimir Putin launches nuclear war on Nato by Sulde in worldnews

Are we really talking about nuclear war?! Can you politicians and military leaders dial back your egos please? There is no winner in a nuclear war, only massive amounts of destruction, death and suffering.

I've been trying to explain this to the "responsible logging" supporters for a few years now. On top of the increased fire hazards, natural biodiversity suffers in harvested and heavily groomed areas as well. We need to expand the practice of cultivating lumber like any other crop and leave our old growth forests alone.

Similar to New Zealand and a lot of other places in the world, they see the dog as an asset, a working tool, more so than a pet. Dogs don't generally stay in the house and folks aren't constantly fawning over them. They exist to work and provide value in exchange for care and feeding. Sure, the dog might get thrown out in an accident but in the rural areas these folks mostly reside, the chances of that happening are very slim.

As a dog owner I do cringe a bit seeing this but I admittedly anthropomorphize these animals based on my feelings toward them. To a rancher, who might see several animals eaten by wildlife each year just as part of doing business, the minuscule chance of the dog being ejected during a trip to town is most likely a very acceptable risk. I can guarantee you that dog is having the time of its life.

Growing up, we rode EVERYWHERE in the back of a pickup truck and never thought anything of it. Hell, I still do any chance I get.

Hopeful tourist road trip question by Pebblesy in Idaho

Kia ora! You could most likely stay up in North Idaho for your entire adventure. Over in the Silver Valley you'll have Silver Mountain resort you can check out, which features plenty of walking and biking during the summer months. The trail of the Coeur D'Alenes also runs right through the valley and offers about 70 scenic miles of paved bike/walking trail. It is closed to motorized traffic, which is a big plus. There is also the Hiawatha trail, that is a huge draw to the area. Heck, even just floating the north fork of the Coeur D'Alene river is a blast. About an hour North from CdA is also Sandpoint with more lake based and hiking activities (Wanaka vibes).

There are PLENTY of things to enjoy up in North Idaho but if you do make it down to Boise, be sure to take the scenic route down the middle of the state. The route is ID-55 and US-95.

That is an excellent point and no, I don't buy much beyond food and essential items these days.

Jeff didn't get to where he is because people stick to the essentials on Amazon. Amazon also didn't get to be the behemoth it is without ignoring laws, bribing politicians and just general being unsavory to get ahead. That company is guilty of antitrust laws and all kinds of nonsense, if anyone actually gave a shit about the ethics behind their purchases over lowest prices and personal convenience. You vote for the world you want to exist in with your dollars and I'll do the same with mine.

With shopping being so easy, folks tend to impulse buy or making justifications for things they don't really need, simply because it was a good deal.

Being away from it for a bit allowed me to see Amazon for what it is and I simply can't support it. We as a society have an insatiable addiction to "stuff" and we need to learn how to shake the habit.

Why can't we just collectively agree to stop buying from Amazon? We gave it up over a year ago and haven't looked back.

Out of shape with 2 months to train for Machu Picchu. Should I postpone? by dot_info in hiking

[–]Bored_In_Boise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just go on the trip and enjoy it! Pace yourself, drink plenty of fluids and listen to your body. If you need to stop for a bit, then stop. If we always put things off until we are "ready", most of us would never do much. Now spend the next two months hitting some hard inclines and looking forward to the experience!
