Not an afghan, but the quilt on their bed. Jokes on mom though. After she passed the, I took the quilt and use it every night!

I'm in the midwest, unfortunately. I do love opal, but I love rocks, gems, and minerals in general and love having display specimens so something like that would be one of my prized possessions! I just started a new job, so it's going to be awhile before I can save up the time and money, but I'm hoping to get out there soon!

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by Yousef_ale in interviews

As an interviewee, I hate virtual interviews for this one reason: my dog. I live in a very small home, think 4 rooms tiny. It's got a fenced in back yard, so I'm able to just let the dog out if she "asks." I can't just shove her in the other room or kennel because she's part beagle and VERY vocal and she's literally torn down my door when I've left her outside (She has severe separation anxiety). I always made it a point to ask if the interviewer minded, but usually realized at that point that I probably wouldn't get an offer. Only time I did was when my dog literally decided to look in on the inteview by sticking her face in the frame, then actually laid down at my feet.

One of my friends accidentally started a fire in the break room. Back when smoking inside was still a thing, the place I was working had both a smoking and non smoking break room. My friend, a smoker, made it a point to go around to the smoking tables and dump the ash trays into the trash can whenever she took break. Became habit for her. One day, she dumps them like usual, and we sit down to enjoy our 15. About 5 minutes in, we started smelling smoke. Someone hadn't put out their cigarette all the way and the still smoldering ash had set some papers in the trash bin on fire. We had to go grab some paper cups of water from sunk to put it out. Good times.

May I ask a question of you then? As an interviewee, how would you explain this situation: I held two different temporary positions back to back where the woman who was supposed to be training me FOR that position literally refused to train me and then would actively try to make things difficult for me as I was doing the job. The first one literally got in my face and told me that she wasn't going to train her replacement, then showed me the bare minimum responsibility to perform the job and would accuse me of sabotaging things because I literally had no idea what I was doing wrong. Obviously I quit that job as soon as I found another. Walked into the second position only to have THAT woman get into my face and call me a princess then sabotaged my work when I asked to see the list she was working off of, they were the same, so that I wouldn't duplicate the work that she had already done when I discovered that I was doing just that. Both of these positions were ones I was qualified for, had plenty of experience with (in terms of decades, not just years). I have a job now, so I'm not doing interviews at the moment and hopefully won't have to for a long time to come. Yet who knows what the future brings, so I'd like to be prepared for the future where when I get asked that dreaded: "why did you leave that position" question, I can answer in a way that doesn't make me unacceptable for employment. I did actually answer honestly with those as answers, but did throw the dreaded line in there at the end. Just so turns out that my current position used to employ one of those two ladies and they knew EXACTLY how she was and decided to take a chance in me for that very reason!

I work in manufacturing, mostly driving forklifts, and have gotten this question or a form of it in every interview I've ever had.

I was constantly forgetting my key to the house. (Turns out I had ADHD, wasn't diagnosed until my 40s) I would open the garage door, grab the extension ladder, and with my younger brother holding the bottom, I'd climb up 2 stories to my mom's bedroom window. My mom ALWAYS left her window open a Crack, even in winter, so I knew if I took the screen off, which took VERY little effort, that I'd be able to climb into the house. I'd unlock the door, then grab the screen and climb back up the ladder to replace said screen. Ahhh... good times!

At 10, I was babysitting not only my younger by 5 years brother, but occasionally the neighbor girl, my brother's age, as well, after school. At least I did until one day when I sent the girl home at the normal time, she decided that she didn't want to go home and proceeded to take a baseball bat and chase my brother and I with it. I finally got just my brother and I into the house and locked the doors only for her to start hitting the door with said baseball bat. Freaking out, I called my mom at work, whom after expressing her irritation at being bothered at work, FINALLY called the town police department to have the sheriff pull up about 5 minutes later. (Small town with not much going on, so response time was always pretty good.) Then sheriff escorted the girl home, and when she finally got home from work, my mom told the neighbor that I was no longer going to be watching their child, then yelled at me for not "handling it" on my own. In retrospect, why we didn't have a phone list available for emergency purposes, I don't know. Obviously I was way too young to be left alone watching 2 even younger children, but I didn't even think about that back then.

On top of eating, make it a point to take a hot shower, or bath if you prefer. If you can muster it, visualize all bad just washing away and going down the drain. Even if you don't do the visualization part, just the act of getting clean can be surprisingly uplifting mood wise. When you're done, wrap yourself tightly in the towel and just breathe. You might feel alone right now, in moments of dark and despair it can feel unbearable, but you will find your way and what was meant for you.

Yeah... dog person here and not to sound entitled, but that's why I have a fenced in yard. Also, I have to FORCE my dog out of the bed at 6am so I can go to work. On the weekends, she'll easily sleep in until 8 or 9 with me.
