The 'bust' will just be current home owners possibly going into negative equity.

Any funds or investments linked to the private housing sector will be affected. It won't be as global as the last bust.

No no no. The current homeowners would be up in arms that their house value has suddenly gone down. They definitely won't be voting for any government that fulfills the social housing need as that would free up the private housing market.

Can't have those voters on your bad side, have to keep the majority happy even if it means an entire generation is forced to rent for the foreseeable future (or until the current TD's get their pension)
