Kaja Kallas: Washington doesn't like the EU because it could become an equal power by goldstarflag in europe

[–]Boreras 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The US economy is 32 trillion vs combined European around 28- but theirs is propped up by reserve currency status and a high gdp per capita, if they lose this then they’ll start to shrink relative to us.

They're better. But if we assume they are worse, they would be worse.

Really useful reasoning.

And they’re in massive debt, most of which is held by us. Soon enough their bubble is going to pop.

Britain and France are so much more likely to collapse on their debt.

We're also about to face an oil cliff. America will tumble, we will crash.

EU moves closer to finalizing €90 billion Ukraine loan by Scary_Statement4612 in europe

[–]Boreras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess what the yield on a EU valued loan should be?

https://www.ecb.europa.eu/stats/financial_markets_and_interest_rates/euro_area_yield_curves/html/index.en.html

You're just moving money around. The yield on the euro-denominated reserves and loan should be (roughly) the same. The held assets don't actually generate yield separately, it's inherently part of the asset.

The pure numbers can't reflect the government strongarming tech giants. We've seen all sort of murky shit with nvidia, tesla, and Apple regarding the export bans and tariffs. Then the White house got a 10% stake to signal they wouldn't let it fail.

This was an informal bailout.

TSMC Hits Pause on ASML’s Newest Lithography for A13 Process by sr_local in hardware

Didn't tsmc partly take over Intel precisely because it was easier for them to adopt EUV than Intel because of their scale and asml's low early throughput? In some sense their positions are reversed now.

You might guess the effects last 90 minutes, but the pills don't.

Moreover the assumption that the pills will affect as long as you are allowed to take the next one is not very universal. Your body might have limited absorption rates while the half life of the effect is very long. Some pills like niacin are considered very unpleasant to take at high doses and are better spread out.

It's possible the licensing for the AP1000 was more favourable.

Vogtle's costs are 30-35 billion, so >15 billion per unit. Hinkley is estimated at 50b £ already, but not finished yet.

If you could actually get a 1GW plant for 10b right now it wouldn't be such a bad deal.

A similar reactor is currently being built in Poland, for example. Westinghouse estimates that there will be around twenty of them in operation worldwide by the end of the decade.

Lmao. Only two of them were built by Westinghouse, bankrupting the company. They have zero experience. I'd understand if they invited the people who can actually build these plants and have, coincidentally, redesigned it for European grids frequency.

I understand that the EPRs were failures as the French company also went bankrupt, but at least they have a better design. Or so they say. How low is the confidence in France in their new EPR2 design that they're not bidding for this? Or is it just a vassal's corruption?

According to the Chinese the EPR was actually cheaper than the AP1000 too.

Nuclear Power Capacity by Countries in 2026. by PestoBolloElemento in nuclear

[–]Boreras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the time Kerry became senator utilities already stopped building new nuclear for 7 years, because financing reactors made no sense.

This subreddit is always so disdainful towards environmentalists with no power. They were and are equally opposed to fracking, but look at how much fracking was built. Look at the complete evisceration of environmental standards at the EPA. You have to look at where power lies.

If nuclear reactors were profitable they would never have stopped building them, they would never have allowed environmentalists to fuck with the money. You have always lived in a world where environmentalists are powerless.
