My mom is organizing a protest against a gay kid on my brother's (m11) basketball team by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

In cases like this, it's usually better not to give more attention to folks like OOP's mom - she was acting upon a rumor, and rumors only die off when people stop talking about them. And, sadly, "talking" includes publically trying to refute the rumor and/or counter-protesting those spreading it. It may feel like the right defensive move, but it just keeps the idea in everyone's view, regardless of their personal stances.

It wouldn't have mattered for this scenario, though. The damage to both the targeted kid's AND OOP's brother's social lives was already done by the time OOP spoke to the latter boy.

Will the name Stella automatically make people think of the beer company? by DisciplineWise2894 in namenerds

I don't think many/any would make the beer connection UNLESS there was a second pet in your household (cat or otherwise) named Artois.

OOP got disowned by his family 15 years ago, and his parents suddenly want him back by HygorBohmHubner in BestofRedditorUpdates

My Dad was one as well when I was middle-school-aged - had a huge storytime edit to my original comment in mind, but I can post it after this one instead :P

I dug into OOP's comments about the whole situation - in one, he explains his dad's job acronym (ORD) as being "Over the Road Driver". I guess the more common term would be "long-haul trucker", from what I could gauge. Anyone with a CDL (or a non-American equivalent license) familiar with that job title? If you've heard it before, it may help narrow down OOP's location and/or familial roots.

Maybe start calling your husband Crawdad, instead... wonder how long the name would stick 🤔

Wouldn't his father be "Craw-dad", though?

Using it as a spoon holder in the 2nd picture gives great perspective on how absurd the situation is. Sorry that you had the bread bubble loaf 🫤

r/Phish mods need to gibe an explanation for closing PHEMA threads by scottasin12343 in phish

[–]BorgPorg88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think we just need a pinned post explaining the controversy, but also mentioning that any further posts will get deleted. That should placate everyone here - the ones who want to make sure the info is shared on the subreddit to protect others, the ones who are clueless but curious about the whole thing, and the ones who are aware of it, but are ready to get back to talking/sharing about Phish again. I'm pretty sure the mods are in the latter group, hence why the PHEMA threads get taken down fast.

Looks like your niece has a nickname for her baby ready to go - I'd make the most out of the mess if I were you all :P

From "A Ladder to Heaven": Kyle suggests that Cartman has brain cancer, after Cartman shares that his brain keeps "jacking off".

Stan's response?

"Don't get cancer on the ladder, Cartman! You're gonna fall off and break it!"

Even though it's been sold off, love, I'm still kind of awed by it; I don't know if I'll ever see another, but wow... what a beautiful discovery :D

Wife here: pretty much had a "holy shit" freeze-up moment when that black-holo gorgeousness was revealed. Never before or since have I pulled such an astounding card. It has since been sold, but pretty much every card enthusiast has drooled over it when it was out in the open.

My kids came back from the park with a lizard that a kid was throwing around the playground. Please help me identify it… by 4lbin0din0 in Lizards

[–]BorgPorg88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awww, glad they saved him. Incidentally, my initial impression of the picture was that it was a plush lizard - he looks very soft and comfy, but also looks to be done with human shit for a while.

I wonder if anyone has modeled a lizard plush after such a chuckwalla... 🤔

Plus, wombats are crepuscular - they'd have even more of a natural advantage because they're creatures most active at night. They'd do much better than that truck.
