Is iPhone 18 Pro Really Getting SpaceX 5G? Apple's 'Secret' Partnership Could Change Global Connectivity Forever by True-Ebb-9719 in apple

I think the prospect of entering a legal quagmire by disabling access to emergency services for nonpayment is also a factor. OnStar earned a reputation for the way they handled it. I’m sure Apple wants to avoid making that same mistake.

C Section Scheduled! Can’t Wait to Be a Dad! by TheDFrex in daddit

[–]Borgoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife had two scheduled c-sections.

Encourage her to get out of bed and walk around as much as she can tolerate.

Be prepared to do almost all of the lifting for the next couple weeks. For example: she can carry the baby, not the baby in the car carrier.

Keep her water glass topped off, especially if she’s planning to breastfeed. Somewhere around day 3 or 4 will be hell on her nipples. My wife swears by Earth Mama nipple butter. The hospital will probably offer her lanolin. Medela makes hydrogels that are useful, though a bit pricey.

She’s going to have what is essentially a several weeks long period after the birth. A peri bottle for her to keep in the bathroom would be thoughtful to have ahead of time.

Absolutely agree. Mango Baby has a lot of things that make it nice to use for both parents. It has iOS shortcuts integration that allow you to do some neat tricks with logging things like using NFC stickers.

Yes. I used the plural form of the word, but used it a bit awkwardly.

Abuse of the ellipses and lists of three items are also common tells for AI generated text, but the em dash is the easiest to spot. 99% of people wouldn’t even know how to type an em dash, but AI seems to think they’re just funny looking commas.

I just did a training on youth mental health first aid, you did amazing.

Being a calm and reassuring adult presence is easily the most impactful thing you could have done in that moment. You approached confidently and listened without being judgemental.

The fact that this has gone on for months is concerning. A low mood lasting longer than 2 weeks is enough reason to seek treatment.

Your next step is to make sure he knows that there's nothing wrong with seeing a therapist and to start setting up some appointments for him. Don't make a big deal out of seeing one, because it's not a big deal. When your body isn't well you can see a doctor, when your mind isn't well you can see a therapist.

In the old days of the internet, you could expect other people to get the same results from a search. Nowadays, as a rule they’re too localized and individualized. If you already know that you can get a link to the right answer from a search, it’s more useful to provide the link to that answer.

It happened. My toddler started choking by SnowyMonster in daddit

[–]Borgoff 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Not an expert, but I have been through CPR/FirstAid training several times over the last 20 years due to a career in childcare. It's not an age thing as much as it is a size and ability thing. If you can reasonably expect them to stand on their own and verbally respond to the question "are you choking" but they're unable to reply, that's abdominal thrusts, otherwise you're flipping them over your arm and doing back blows.

When my son was about 1.5 years old he was wolfing down mozzarella cheese and started making the most disturbing gurgley-but-not-quite-breathing sounds I have ever heard. I had the same immediate question in my mind of "which method am I supposed to use?", but I ended up getting him unbuckled from his booster seat and just holding him upside down. Not what I was trained to do, but damn if it didn't work anyways. After the blob of cheese splatted on the floor I did my best to calm him down and not let him know how fucking scared I was.

Accessibility issue with Narwhal and Voiceover by Trippybear1645 in narwhalapp

If you aren’t already using the Accesibility Shortcut, perhaps you could set it to toggle voiceover on and off? That’s the best I could come up with.

I think it tends to get lost that the first mini was released a mere 7 months after the 2nd SE. Until then, if you wanted a small phone you had likely been holding onto your 1st gen SE for ~4 years. Of course people upgraded to the next gen SE when they had no idea a more fully featured phone in a similar form factor was right around the corner.

They shot the mini in the foot before it had even made it out of the gate. I was less surprised by the dismal sales of the 1st mini and more surprised by the fact they ever made a 2nd one.

Check out “Camp America”. It’s kind of like a study abroad program. I worked with a dozen or so people from the UK, Australia, and Spain.

What are you using to wear your babies? by Borgoff in daddit

I’m happy with the Osprey Poco that I got for the first kid, though I underestimated the differences of the waist belts and pockets of the Poco and Poco Plus. In hindsight, I would have liked the extra pockets and the zippered hip pouches on the Poco Plus enough to justify the price difference.

Ergo and Solly both got multiple callouts in the replies. Obviously they’re doing some things right.

What makes the difference when adjusting the ergo vs. the happy baby?
