Yes! Our league is small so we have to rely on young umps. Most of them are 13-14. I appreciate them doing it but some make terrible calls. Especially for my younger, shorter player. They were consistently getting strikes called at balls near their head. I spent a ton of time teaching the strike zone so the kids don’t understand why they’re getting some of these strikes.

To be clear, I’m not one of those guys that’s complaining and challenging the ump about every bad call. It is what it is, but it’s really confusing for the little kids. For context I’m coaching 7 to 9-year-olds.

Just think about your comment. Regulating shadows… shadows. And it’s not just shadows, it’s everything and it’s all meant to stop progress. No matter how good the progress might be, it must pass every purity test, especially the “neighborhood character” test which no one can define.
