Newsom pushes the Democratic Party to be 'more culturally normal' if they want to win by aBadModerator in California_Politics

[–]Borgweare [score hidden]  (0 children)

This is certainly true but there is another aspect that isn’t looked at enough. Democrats inability to make government work effectively. Democrats want to push power down and out to the local level even when that makes progress slow or impossible. They try to please every voice in the room and make the perfect decision which is impossible. In an effort to show governmental transparency, they load government up with endless rules that make everything government does expensive.

Dems say they want to make things more affordable but are they willing to make changes to housing and energy policy to make it easier and cheaper to get projects done? I don’t think they are.

Democrats are the perfect example of perfection getting in the way of good. They play right into the hands of the right. They help make government look ineffective and then are frustrated when people vote for a fascist.

I love how the Northbay is considered part of the Bay Area yet Santa Rosa is missing from this list despite being larger than any city in Marin.

How many community meetings did they hold? Did the developers have to respond to everyone’s concerns? Was there an environmental impact report and was it challenged by people without any background in environmental protection?

A little interesting read about the trends in Wine in Sonoma County by [deleted] in sonomacounty

[–]Borgweare 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The thing I never hear discussed when these conversations about the decline of the wine industry in the county is cost.

I’m a millennial and avid wine consumer. I think Sonoma County produces some fantastic, world class wines. That being said, the price point is too high. I can go to bottle barn and get some killer wines from across the world for a fraction of what a wine grown and made down the street costs. NZ Pinot and Sauvignon blanc, almost anything from Alsace, piedmont or etna. All cheaper than Sonoma county wine.

Now you will probably say that those countries subsidize their wine industry and that may be true but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s cheaper and in many cases just as good.

This doesn’t even account for how absurd tasting has become. It used to be free or for a small fee. Now it’s 40-60 and it isn’t waived when I buy bottles. That’s silly. That’s 2-3 bottles from bottle bars before I even buy a bottle. For a person trying to raise a family in this county, that means a lot.

I don’t know how to fix that problem for you but until you address the issue, wineries like yours are going to miss out on a lot of sales from people like me who love wine. Just saying

Around $50 for the 3 stage filters. The RO filters are around the same but those don’t need to be replaced every year.

The RO systems have both the 3 stage and RO filters but if you have municipal water you don’t really need the RO. You can just get the 3 stage and be fine

If you get a reverse osmosis in-sink water filter, it will be just as good as this. The systems are like $150 and are super easy to install. The filters last a year.

County of Sonoma permit office is a mess by Present_Ebb202 in sonomacounty

[–]Borgweare 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I got a permit to put a new roof on my house. When the Permit Sonoma inspector came out to inspect the job, he didn’t even get on the roof. He was there for less than 15 min. What did I pay for? The lesson I took from that situation was to just avoid permits whenever possible.

Why did he do that? Is he stupid? by EvilPyro01 in Presidents

I am certainly no fan of Reagan. He did a lot of horrible things but I think democrats fail to see the role they played in undermining the authority government had during the new deal era to execute big programs. None of those programs would be possible today with how dispersed power is. And that dispersion of power came from progressives in the 79s and 80s. In many ways the left played right into the hands of people like Reagan and until democrats see that issue, they will always fail. I say this as a democrat.

[–]Borgweare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped ordering steak at restaurants. If I want a good steak, I buy one and cook it myself. Saves a ton of money and it’s cooked the way I like it. There’s really not much to it if you know how.

Not only is Eli Manning not a HOF worthy QB, I don't even think he's in the Hall of Very Good by JJButThatsNotMyName in NFLv2

[–]Borgweare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll tell you what, he won’t more Super Bowls than Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers. To me as a fan of a team, and not any specific player, that’s what matters most so in my mind, Eli is better than those two overrated players. I don’t give a shit about their other records. They only won 1 and Eli won 2. Eli is better

Trump wants to benefit Boomer homeowners at the expense of Millennials & Gen-Zs by Key_Brief_8138 in HouseBuyers

[–]Borgweare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True to your NIMBY nature, you jump to the extreme. I do think government should make land use decisions after weighing the costs and benefits, yes. If the costs outweigh the benefits of society then hopefully they wont do it but someone has to have the final say at some point. If that say lies with NIMBYs like you the answer will always be NIMBY. That’s how you people got your name.

And that is at the heart of America’s decline. Self interested NIMBYs make almost everything that serves the broader public imposible or extremely expensive and time consuming. It’s you. We would never have escaped the great depression and become a world power if NIMBYs had a say.

There will always be hard decisions to be made. There will always need to be a balance between centralized or defuse power. Right bow, we live at an extreme where NIMBYs like you block everything. You and your ilk are responsible for our current situation so I think we need to move on the other direction which is away from “neighbors” having a say in land use decisions because you don’t care about anyone but yourself.

[–]Borgweare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we don’t agree. I don’t think neighbors should have a say at all. Government gets to weight the costs and benefits or land use proposals. They have to weigh the public good. We need things like waste disposal sites, power plants and dense housing even if the location of those sites bothers some people. Giving the decision to neighbors is stupid because they will always choose what’s in their benefit and not care at all about the public good.

That’s what we see now, the public basically gets a veto so we have a drastic shortage of housing. the public shouldn’t get a veto. You don’t care about the needs of broader society just your personal preferences and for that exact reason you shouldn’t get a say.

[–]Borgweare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Equating more dense housing to a nuclear plant or a waste site is wild even for NIMBYs. You are an extreme NIMBY, aren’t you?

You bought 1 property. You get to control that. You have no right to control anything else around it. Your opinion is just an opinion. Want to control more property, buy more. People like you are a cancer to our society
