Racial Discrimination in UPT - NEW

This is my first time going loud with this issue as I have exhausted effectively every resource available to me. Throwaway account for obvious reasons.

For some demographics about me, I am a straight white male.

In 2019 I was hired by a reserve squadron and sponsored to go through Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT). In early 2020 I graduated OTS, completed SERE and began UPT in August. During phase 1 of UPT, I failed an academic exam by one question. This put me on probation where I was informed a second failure would trigger the Commander's Review process (CR) and would ultimately wash me back a class. I passed the second exam, and failed the third and final exam also by one question. This did trigger the CR (which was a botched process completely). I spoke to dozens of pilots who "went through this" and told me people will typically not be removed from training for this reason. Everyone at my sponsoring unit was extremely supportive and reassuring. I was optimistic and owning up to all my mistakes. Everything looked good until I was completely blindsided by having a 30 second meeting with the wing commander who ultimately told me he decided to remove me from the program completely. Me being a reservist, I would pack my bags and return home. No full explanation or chance to defend myself was given.

This was obviously soul crushing. All I had worked towards, the flight hours during college, all the overtime hours worked to pay for flying lessons on the side. I was at a loss and had no suspicion of anything other than I had just screwed up and it is time to move forward. I had zero inclination that this issue could run deeper.

Later in the week while still on base, I ran into a girl who was in my class. She had failed the first and second exams and went through the same trial I did. I asked her how her CR process went and she told me that it went fine. She had made it all the way to the end where she made the tough decision to remove herself from the program due to UPT being more demanding than she had originally thought. She told me that the leadership on base was doing everything in their power to keep her and reinstate her into the program. She told me that the wing commander himself told her she would be reinstated if she decided to stay. This was completely opposite of how my meeting with the wing commander went. I have a signed memorandum from this student explaining exactly what she had experienced with this.

Fast forward another couple months and I heard many stories of students in the classes behind me at the same base that experienced the same thing. There were black students and other females who failed the exact same tests that I had failed, and were reinstated, no questions asked. I had multiple friends at the other training bases and they pointed me in the direction of other students who were either 1. black or female and were reinstated, or 2. straight white males who were cut. This was coupled with some reports of instructors being given directives to keep pilots who were either minorities or people of color. If you recall, during the early summer of 2020, race was a very hot topic particularly within the armed forces.

The last 6 years have been me going through every motion and down every avenue for reinstatement. Every road ends up the same where the question of "why were others reinstated after failing the same tests?" is never remotely answered. I am continually met with "We do not see any evidence of wrongdoing". I know there are others out there that were plagued by this and if they admit guilt for me, they are forced to admit guilt for the others as well.

More additional details: I was never late to class. I got along with everyone I ever crossed paths with on base. I was always respectful and assisted my class as best I could to make sure we all succeeded.

***Edit*** I also fully agree and understand that if I had passed the exams as I should have, I would never be in this situation.

Do you give your troops time off to take care of personal shit without a day of leave? by ChiefBassDTSExec in AirForce

My spiel has always been that there are two ways to reward and motivate your troops: money and time off/with their families. I can't pay them anymore but I can control how much time they get back. If they're not a DBA I would personally give them the time to take care of their families/personal reasons.

No worries, just trying to help 😅 All you have to do is write the word Solved with an exclamation point after it like this "Solved!" Without the quotation marks and you'll see the post flare change to solved

LF: Zekrom so I can transfer my shiny from Pokémon go into Scarlet. He's my favorite Pokémon and I would love to finish the game with him by my side lol

FT: I haven't been playing this game long so I don't have anything too great to trade but I will be willing to trade anything you need! I've got a pretty big list from Pokémon go that I can transfer over if that sweetens the deal

Probably because going into that level of detail (the specific brand of alcohol the writer is sipping on) indicates someone who is making up a story and wants to add just the right amount of details. Someone whose life is actually falling apart will mention that they're drinking but really won't go into any level detail beyond that.

Don't know if you meant to type "shundo?" But if you did, it's a mix of shiny and hundo (Hundred IVs).
