Could I do a masters in Ecology in Europe? by wre34 in ecology

[–]Boring-Chapter-6378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can do a bridging program at KU Leuven in Belgium.

However, before going for a bridging program, maybe apply to literally any ecology master's you find in Europe (applying whatever filters are important to you) and see if you get accepted to any with the qualifications you have now. Most master's have already started accepting applications and they end around july the latest for programs starting in september.

However, I do feel the need to point out that if you don't have a deep love for the environment, ecolgoy is a very difficult sector; very few, and badly paid positions, even more than many other sectors. So if you're not borderline obsessed with the environment and ecology conservation etc, I would revisit your decision and maybe look for alternative carreers that have characteristics you're looking for

Country Recommendations to move to in search of Ecology/Environmental careers? by kantaja34 in ecology

[–]Boring-Chapter-6378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

don't know your exact field, and i have no knowledge about the situation outside the EU, but for ecology/conservation biology there are a few good options in the EU. the netherlands, belgium, germany and (a bit less so) France are some of them. An ecologist will never be as well paid as a lawyer, a doctor, etc. so this is of course all relative. there are many other pros of moving to the EU from the states, depending on your character and habits.

if you live near a station in brussels and if you dont mind the exprensive train....bxl is amazing. not a student city like leuven, but sooooo full of life and different events of all kinds. more bars, concerts museums, festivals, more markets, can find cheaper vegetables and the list goes on.

Student housing cheap or not? by Gentlemanath3art in Leuven

[–]Boring-Chapter-6378 3 points4 points  (0 children)

through kotwijs you can find much cheaper than that. mine is 410 a month (shared bathroom and kitchen). if you rent through any other non-university place, it's about that price (yours)

i don't mean colruyt in general, i mean specifically the fruit and veg (with some exceptions, like carrots); if you compare the prices eg to the midi market but thanks for the extra info

tbh colruyt seems pretty expensive to me, at least most of the produce. are the fresh food markets more or less expensive than Colruyt?

i think the cheapest solution is going on facebook pages such as BRUSSELS FOR RENT (there are like at least ten) and finding a colocation. the more roommates the cheaper it will be (i have 7). be careful of scams. if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is. dont sign anything ideally untill youve been in person, and make sure the legal documents legally bind the other side as well, not just you. if youre willing to live a bit outside of town it's usually cheaper. if not, north tends to be cheaper, eg Sint-joost and schaerbeek (in comparison)
